beet train

The family tells how my dad who was the baby of the family was taken to the beet fields in a wagon. Everyone took turns taking care of him. My dad tells how his mom would reinforce his pants at the knees because they crawled on their knees to pick. He started picking beets as soon as he was able to. As an adult, one of my dad's last jobs was working for Holly Sugar coating their experimental beet seeds. But as a young boy and man, his family ranched before my dad went into the service."
