    • Residence: 1800, New Paltz, Ulster, New York
    • Residence: 1800, Kingston, Ulster, New York; Name appears as James Minard Jr
    • Residence: 1812, Connecticut

    Notes:

In the 1800 Federal Census in Ulster County we only show two possible Minard families. They are both entered on the census record in New Paltz as Miner. There is a James Miner and a Joel Miner. In both 1790 and 1810 we find no Miners, however we do find Minards in Ulster County in both of those years. I believe the name spelling was an error by the census taker. Possibly Junior in Kingston is the father and James in New Paltz is James the III.

The 1800 census for James Miner in New Paltz shows:
    males under 10 two
    males 10-16 one
    males over 45 one
    females 10-16 one
    females 16 to 26 2 two
    females over 45 1

The 1790 census has James Minard Jr in Kingston, Ulster, New York,

Notes from Descendants of James & Abigail (Camp) Minard : Quakers of Ulster County, NY by Ross W McCurdy 2011:
James Minard married Abigail Camp, daughter of Isaac Camp and Sarah Clark. They had twelve known children. He was living in Lebanon, Connecticut in 1771 and Kingston, New York in 1799. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in New York and Ontario.

Birthdate-Our best guess is about 1745, based upon wife being born 1747 and children starting 1768, however that is just a guess.

Many trees have James C. Minard. Where did the 'C' come from? I finally figured that out. Massachusetts vital records have a James C. Minard dying in Attleboro, Mass 6 Mar 1835 at age 45. That means born 1790. That cannot be our guy.

Related to the above, many trees have a death date of 6 Mar 1835. Again wrong person.

Many trees have parents of David Minard and Rebeckah Richards. Where did that come from? In the Early Connecticut Vital Records we have David Minard marrying Rebeckah Richards on 20 Mar 1722. In the Barbour collection we have James 'Menoid' son of David and Rebeckah born 2 Dec 1729. David and Rebeckah also have 3 other children Andrew 12 Dec 1724, David 30 Nov 1722 and Sarah 6 Jan 1727. We also see some trees having 1729 as James Birth date. As our James was having children as late as 1797, it is safe to say that is not our James. However, it is possible that James is the father of our James. We currently have no evidence pointing to that, though.

Death date-We already know that 1835 is incorrect. We have found a Quaker marriage record in Marlborough, New York for 'William Minard, son of James and Abigail (both deceased), and Keziah Young'. William is already in our tree as a son, Keziah would be a 2nd wife later in life. That record is dated 2 Jul 1834. Thus both James and Abigail died prior to that date.

That marriage record is located at https://www.familysearch.org/library/books/records/item/173411-quaker-meeting-records-state-of-new-york-ulster-county-columbia-county-albany-county-clinton-county?viewer=1&offset=0#page=88&viewer=flip&o=info&n=0&q= Unfortunately the link only takes you to the beginning of the book. You would have to scroll to page 89. A quicker way is to click on the thumbnails icon on the bottom of the page (the 2nd icon from the bottom left) Then look for thumbnail 89 and click on it.

A James Minard served in the Connecticut Militia during the Revolutionary War. We do not know if that was the same person.
