The birthplace in England of George Phelps is not known. It has been claimed that he arrived in 1630 on the "Mary and John", but as the first record of him in Dorchester was May 1635 it is more likely that he did not arrive on the "Mary and John". Possibly he is the passenger George P. who arrived on the "Recovery" in 1634.

He was with the group which moved to Windsor with Rev. John Warham.

He married first by 1638 to Philura Randall, the daughter of Phlip Randall, with whom he had 5 children. Philura died 29 Apr 1638 in Windsor.

On 2 Nov 1648 he married the widow of Thomas Dewey, Frances whose maiden name is unknown, with whom he had 3 additional children.

George Phelps died in Westfield 8 May 1687.

George Phelps appears in the "Great Migration Begins: Series" and all the above information is from that source.

The Phelps Family DNA site at http://www.phelpsdna.com/ has determined that Williams Phelps and George Phelps not only are not brothers as was previously assumed, but are not biologically related in genealogical time.

We are uncertain if the record of a marriage between Phillippe Randole and Joann Fush in Allington, Dorset, England refers to this Philip Randall. Many online genealogies show Frances Randall as the daughter of Philip. She allegedly married 1) Joseph Clark 2) Thomas Dewey and 3) George Phelps. We have been unable to confirm this through the Dewey Family History, as Thomas Dewey's wifes maiden name is not mentioned.

Philip Randall in his will mentions the children of his dau Phillury and George Phelps, but he does not mention the children of Frances and Thomas Dewey. That would tend to imply that the Frances who married Thomas Dewey was not his daughter.

Also, Clarence Torrey in the NYGBR 59:214-215 shows that The wife of Joseph Clark died before he did. And that the widow Frances Clark who married Thomas Dewey was not previously married to Joseph Clark, her first husband being unknown.

He married Anna White, dau of Robert White of Shalford and Bridget Allgar of Messing, in Messing on 18 Oct 1620. She was baptized at Shalford 13 Jul 1600. (TAG:18P56-60)

I see different dates for his entry into New England in various on-line genealogies. The problem being that there were three different John Porter immigrants into New England in these early years. Records of one are being confused with another. Our John Porter arrived in New England in late 1638 or early 1639 and immediately settled at Windsor. He died 21 Apr 1649 at Windsor. His wife Anna had died 21 Apr 1648 also in Windsor. (TAG16:P49-53)

John Porter and Anna White have many descendants, including Marlon Brando, John Brown (The Abolitionist), Anthony Perkins, William Williams (signor of the Declaration of Independence) and three U.S. Presidents, Grover Cleveland, Ulysses Grant and Gerald Ford.

Thomas Stanley was baptized 12 Apr 1601 in Tenterden, Kent, England, the child of Robert Stanley and Ruth Garfield.

He married Bennet Tritton (dau of Daniel Tritton and Alice Goldhatch) 3 Aug 1630 in Ashford, Kent, England.

The Mayflower Pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock in 1620 A.D. These particular Stanley families were Puritans. They emigrated from England for religious freedom, and arrived in Boston in May, 1634, just 14 years after the Pilgrims. They traveled on a ship named the "Elizabeth & Dorcas". John Stanley died during the voyage. Upon their arrival in Boston, the two remaining brothers, Timothy and Thomas, with the two remaining children of the deceased John Stanley, went with their fellow voyagers to make their homes in "Newe Town", now Cambridge. John's daughter, Ruth, was assigned to the care of her uncle Timothy, while John's son, also named John, was cared for by his uncle Thomas.

The younger John, Timothy, and Thomas Stanley, were among the founders of Hartford, CT., and are therefore known as the "Hartford" Stanley Families. Descendants of these three Stanley's have been in this country for nearly 400 years.
