    Notes from "The Great Migrations Begins Vol 1-3 page 966:
    Several sources claim that Thomas Holcombe married at Dorchester on 14 May 1634 Elizabeth Ferguson. Such a marriage is not on record, and the date is that on which Holcombe was admitted to freemanship. In 1964 Jacobus noted that "her maiden name has been stated as Ferguson, without proof or probability"(McArthur-Barnes 169)

    George McCracken has written an article on the fraudulent claim of ancestry for Thomas Holcombe (TAG 26: 109-110). And also an article on the inaccurate tombstone erected in his memory (TAG 44: 58-60).

    Thomas's parentage and birthplace in England is unknown.

    George McCracken has also written "Thomas Holcombe's Earlier Posterity" a genealogy of the earlier generations (TAG 57 p.65-76, 16-169, 225-229)

    It is claimed that Thomas married Elizabeth Ferguson on 14 May 1634 in Dorchester.

    Anderson in: the Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to N.E. 1620-1633, Vols. I-III, NEHGS Boston, 1995p. 966, just lists her as Elizabeth ___, born about 1617; she married second, James Eno as his third wife.

    TAG: Vol 57: 1981: p. 66: the common statement that his wife Elizabeth's name was Ferguson, is highly improbably and completely undocumented.

    The above is also stated in TAG. Vol. 58: 1982 p. 125 and again in TAG: Vol. 60:1984 : p. 185, the last stating Torrey erroneously included her name as Ferguson in New England Marriages.

    Notes:

    Name appears as Enno and Eno in New England records. It is believed that James Enno is the same person as Jacques Hennot who left London for North America. Hennot was baptized 21 Aug 1625 in London at the Threadneedle Street Church. This was a church used by French Protestants or Huegenots who fled France due to religious persecution in the 15th, 16th and 17th centuries. Jacques in English is James. One can see how the French pronunciation of Hennot with more or less silent H and T could sound like the same name that the English speakers would spell Enno or Eno. Jacques was the son of Jean (John) Hennot of London.

    "THE ENO FAMILY-NEW YORK BRANCH" published 1920 by Henry Lane Eno shows several generations of ancestry for James Eno and gives sources in French and English records.

    Notes:

    Robert Winchell is listed on the Windsor, Connecticut Founders Monument. Many online trees have Mary Phelps as his wife. There is no source to support that. Ancient Windsor book and Great Migration Series both have Unknown Unknown for spouse. He does have an association with William Phelps-See Great Migration. In his will he asks Sister Randall (Mary Randall), Abraham Randall and Brother Phelps (no first name given) to be his estates overseers. Possibly there is some relationship between a Phelps and Randall.

    Notes from the book "The Winchell Genealogy : the ancestry and children of those born to the Winchell name in America since 1635, with a discussion of the origin and history of the name and the family in England, and notes on the Wincoll family" by Newton N. and Alexander N WInchell in 1917:
    The book lists some genealogies and wills of Winchells and WIncolls in England. However, there is no known connection to Robert Winchell. The book concludes that Robert Winchell was probably born in England. There were also some other Winchells and Wincolls in America in the early time period, however Robert was the head of the only family in WIndsor. There is no evidence connecting Robert to any of the others. There is a family story of "3 brothers'. However, the authors believe that to be a myth. There is no known connection between any of those other any Winchells and Wincolls to Robert. End notes from the book.

    The Great Migration series of sketches also conclude that Robert's origin is unknown.

    All of that being said, there are numerous online trees showing Robert's English ancestry. However, none of them show any evidence other than ancestry trees and find-a-grave entries.
