Vivian C. Stillwagen passed from this life on April 27, 2012, in hospice care at Osprey Court Memory Care, McMinnville, Oregon, surrounded by her loved ones. She was born in Tulsa, OK and grew up in Turley, OK, on a section of land of the original Cherokee land grant land, daughter of Art Chase and Mary F. Collins. Her mother Mary was an original member on the Dawes Rolls of the Cherokee Nation.

She is survived by her brother, and niece; three daughters, and son; four grandchildren; and sixgreat-grandchildren.

Vivian's final resting place will be in Tulsa, Oklahoma, at Memorial Park Cemetery, Lakeside Mausoleum. No Tulsa area services will be held. A family celebration of her life will be held this summer on the Oregon coast. The family would like to recognize all those who provide dementia care across the nation, as Vivian's caregivers provided such tender loving care during this lengthy illness. Donations in her memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.

per Canadian Quaker records Abner Chase along with his son Amasa and other children joined the Yarmouth, Ontario congregation in 1835. Based on numerous DNA matches to the Amasa Chase line, the John Mills/Abigail Minard line and the Isaac Huff/Sarah tripp line (all residents of Yarmouth Township) we believe that Amasa Chase was the illegitimate father of Mary Mills. The mother of Mary Mills would then have to be the daughter of James Mills (son of John/Abigial) and Jemima Huff (dau of Isaace Huff/Sarah Tripp). This is the only plausible scenario which explains the huge number of DNA matches to these 3 lines in Yarmouth Township and also explains Mary Mills using the Mills name. It also gives reason as to why Amasa Chase's sister, Phoebe (who lived in Tuscola County, Michign) took in two of Mary's daughters, Anna and Lydia Degroat, after Mary died in Tuscola, Michigan. I have been unable to find any record of a probate action filed in Tuscola County in regards to Mary's three 'orphaned' children. The father of Mary's three children, Anson Degroat, apparently abandoned the children. He remarried and moved to Kent County without them!

The 3rd daughter Mary ended up in the household of Eli McConnell, who had earlier moved from Yarmouth Township, Ontario to Lapeer County, Michigan.

Amasa married Prudence Moore on 9 Apr 1846 in Elgin, Ontario, Canada. Prudence (daughter of Jeremiah Solomon Moore, Jr and Sarah Pound) was born on 3 Jan 1822 in York, Ontario, Canada; died on 22 Apr 1892 in Farmington, San Juan, New Mexico, USA. [Group Sheet] [Family Chart]
