Many on-line genealogies give Richard Owen and Joanna Pitt as John's Parents, but there is not a shred of proof to this. His parentage and place of birth are unknown, although the family history has him coming from Wales.

Some ancestry.com data records have Rebecca born 1624 in Hartford. That is too early. The earliest record of her father, Robert Wade, in the new world was 1639. The first settlement at Hartford was 1635. I suspect she was born in the 'old world'.

Robert Wade: he is claimed as father of Rebecca in Ralph Dornfield Owen's Descendants of John Owen of Windsor, Connecticut (1622-1690) (Philadelphia 1941), p. 19, but without documentation. Since John Owen and wife apparently did not share in the settlement of Robert Wade's estate, as Mr. Jacobus points out, it would be well to be cautious. The probate file mentions 3 daughters, none named Rebecca.
