The same analysis shows that the lines of Thomas Cory of Chelmsford and William Cory of Portsmouth are not related. (Cory Family Society Newsletter February 2007)

The Grate Book (Great Book)
John Cory's mother gave him a copy of a book by Rev. Richard Rogers. A treatise on the bible. John transported the book across the Atlantic Ocean in 1640. He willed the book to his son John Cory, who willed it to his son John Cory. It continued to be passed from father to son as follows: Elnathan Cory, Ebenezer Cory, Elnathan Cory, John Cory, Elnathan Cory, William Smith Cory, Sidney Cory and Sidney gave it to his daughter Mae Cory Vicroy of Salem, Ohio who holds the book today, over 350 years after the book was given to John by his mother. 3750 Douglas, Harriet W. 84
Feb. 19, 1928 March 21, 2012

Harriet W. Douglas, 84, a resident of Sauvie Island for 60 years, passed away peacefully at home on March 21, surrounded by her family. She was happily married for 44 years to Leslie Douglas, who preceded her in death. Harriet loved living on the farm, raising her family, serving her Lord, attending TOPS Club, playing Mexi-train, and going on mission trips. She traveled to other countries providing health care and teaching children about Jesus. Harriet, a registered nurse with a master's degree in public health, will be remembered for her love of people, her community service work, and her cinnamon rolls. She was a Grand Marshall of the St. Johns Parade in honor of her many years of volunteer service for the people of North Portland. Harriet loved her children, their spouses, and her grandchildren, and they adored her as well. Her big heart had room for all, and no one was a stranger. She is survived by her brothers, Vern, Jim and Larry; her sisters, Sarah and JoAnn; her sons, David and Jeffrey; her daughters, Becky, Jodi, Annie, Laurie, and Marlyn; 14 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 31, at 3 p.m. at the University Park Seventh-day Adventist Church on 4007 N. Alaska St., Portland, Oregon 97203.

3762 EBENEZER COLE

1704 birthdate and 1768 death date came from on-line genealogies. They are not verified. As we know he married in 1733, let us say that he was probably born 1713 or before.
Cole, Ebenezer (I3400)

3763 Edmund Bridges was born about 1612 in England. His parentage or birth location in England is not known. He came to colonial America on 13 July 1635 on the ship "James", which sailed from London, and he settled in Lynn, Massachusetts.

He may have been married first to Alice ______, but there is no confirmed record of this spouse. He married Elizabeth ________by 1636 (GM:1-390). Perhaps Elizabeth and Alice were the same person. His first known child was born 1637. He had 8 children with Elizabeth (or Elizabeth/Alice)

A marriage at St Johns in London, England between Edmund Bridges and Elizabeth Manwaring appears to be of different persons. A child was born 12 Aug 1640 of this couple in England. As this is 5 years after he arrived in America, this is obviously a different person. We see this information in some on-line trees.

Elizabeth died 31 Dec 1664. Torrey's New England Marriages Prior to1700 shows 1st wife of Alice ?Millinton (died after 1641+) with the question mark and with the notation that Alice and Elizabeth may be the same.

He married next to Mary Langton, widow of Richard Littlehale, on 6 April 1665 (GM:1-390) in Ipswich. He had one child with Mary.

Edmund Bridges was a blacksmith by trade. He settled first in Lynn. His name appears in records for Saugus, Rowley, Topsfield and Ipswich.

Although his will was proved in Ipswich, he may have died in Lynn, as that is where he lived at the time. His death date was 13 Jan 1684/85.

Edmund Bridges had connections to two accused witches in Salem. His son, Edmund, married Sarah Towne (Sarah's sister, Rebecca Towne Nurse was hanged for witchcraft) who was later accused of witchcraft. She spent less than one year in prison before being released. His son Josiah, married Ruth Greenslade, whose mother Ann Pudeator (Pudeator being the surname of Ann's second husband) was hanged in 1692 for witchcraft.

We cannot be sure if he married in New England or came over with his wife, but his first child was born in America. Obviously his wife was an immigrant also, but we have no details on when she arrived other than before 1636.

Copies of his will are on file.

3766 Edward Culver was born in England and died In New London, Connecticut 1685 in what is now called Groton. He married Ann Ellis at Dedham, Mass 19 Sep 1638. Ann Ellis died after 1682.
(TAG 31P129-137)

It is often said that Edward Culver was a scout in King Philips War in 1676. However he would have been over 60 years old at the time. Most likely this reference should go to his son, Edward.
(TAG 31P129-137)

in 1881 James P Snell in "A History of Sussex and Warren Counties, New Jersey" stated that John Culver, born England 1575-1580 had 3 sons; John who remained in England, Edward who emigrated to America in 1635 and Joseph who emigrated to Ireland. We do not have any source records for this.

A book by Frederic Lathrop Culver written in the late 1800's gives a genealogy of Edward Culver going back to Edward Culver of Kensington Parish, Middlesex, England who married in 1549. There are no source records and the book as a whole is considered unreliable.

Culver, Edward (I2661)

3767 Edward Fitz Randolph, the Pilgrim, and the progenitor of the Fitz Randolph family line in America, was undoubtedly the "Edward Fitzrandell", the son of Edward Fitz Randolph or Randall and his second wife Frances Howis or Howes, baptized at Sutton-in-Ashfield, Co., Nottingham, England, on July 8, 1607. "Fitz Randolph Traditions" by the late Lewis Van Syckel Fitz Randolph gives much on the English antecedent of the family.
Among the seven hundred passengers who came over in the eleven vessels which comprised the "Winthop Fleet" and which was know as the "Great Immigration" of 1630, was Edward Fitz Randolph, who settled in Scituate, Mass. Pastor Lathrop's diary asserts that the "young Master Edward Fitzrandolph built the 38th house in Scituate, Mass." He married in Scitutate, May 10, 1637, Elizabeth Blossom.
Edward and Elizabeth moved from Scituate to Barnstable, Mass., in 1639 and his name appears in the list of those able to bear arms in New Plymouth in 1643. In 1649, Edward moved from Barnstable to his farm, "a great double lot", in Piscataway, N.J., leaving his son Nathaniel and his daughter, Mary, wife of Samuel Hinckley, in West Barnstable, and his daughter, Hannah, wife of Jasper Taylor, in Yarmouth.
The following was copied from werelate.org:
In the "Book of Records" of Nathaniel Fitz Randolph it states that Edward lived to be nearly eighty years of age." It is often stated that Edward died in Piscataway in 1675 or 1676, which would make him only about 68 or 69 at his death, so it seems probable that he lived until 1684 or 1685. After Edward's death, Elizabeth gave her four sons, John, Joseph, Thomas and Benjamin, on June 26, 1685 the land she had located in her husband's name, and on June 30, 1685 she married Capt. John Pike of Woodbridge, N.J. Julianna Fitz Randolph Wood tells us in her "Family Sketches" that Elizabeth "was buried by her first husband" in the west corner of what is now St. James Church yard, Piscataway, N.J. During the Revolution, as the British troops came down King George's Highway (now Woodbridge Avenue) breastworks were thrown across the plot, and after the war was over and the ground leveled, no trace was found of the tombstones of either Edward or Elizabeth.
He moved to Barnstable on Cape Cod 1639; was juryman 1641; sold house June 1, 1649 and moved to West Barnstable; moved family 1669 to Piscataway, N.J. because the New England Patriotism and religion were too restrictive.

Address: Note: Edward was said to have built the 38th house in Scituate, Plymouth Colony in 1636. He moved to West Barnstable and then in 1669 to Piscataway, NJ because New England's religion was too restrictive. He was a Quaker. His children were born in Barnstable and West Barnstable.

3768 Edward shows on the 1870 census as a 2-year old. He does not show on the 1880 census. He does not show as alive on his mothers obit in 1889. So he died before 1889, probably he died before 1880.

3772 Elizabeth Charde married Aaron Cooke in Thormcombe, Dorset (10 mi. NW of Bridport) 2 Sep 1610

At Bridport, 15 ½ miles west of Dorchester her first husband Aaron Cooke was buried on 28 Dec 1615.

Elizabeth Charde Cook, the widow of Aaron Cook, married Thomas Ford 19 Jun 1616 in Bridport.

At Bridport, are baptism records for children of Thomas Ford (her husband):

Joan, 8 june 1617
Abigail, 8 Oct 1619

The Holy Trinity Church of Dorchester contains the following Baptism Records for children of Thomas Ford (her husband):

Thomas, baptized 21 Sep 1623; buried 6 Oct 1623
Hepzibah, baptized 15 May 1625
Hannah, baptized 1 Feb 1628/29; buried 28 Mar 1629

We conclude that between 1619 and 1623 Thomas and Elizabeth moved from Bridport to Dorchester.

It is possible that Thomas Ford was a widower with a child when he married Elizabeth Charde. In Powerstock, which is 6 miles northeast of Bridport, we find two men named Thomas Ford. One married 29 Jan 1607-08 to Julian Dun and the other married 13 Dec 1610 to Joane Way. We find three baptism records for Florence (1608), Thomas (1610) and Julian (1615) which likely belong to the Thomas Ford married first. And we find two baptisms in 1612 of which one would likely belong to the first Thomas (married 1607/08) and the other likely to the second Thomas (married 1610). Mary, baptized 18 Aug 1612 and Sarah, baptized 6 Jan 1612/13. After 1613 only one Thomas was having children baptized in Powerstock. Joane Ford was buried in Powerstock on 10 May 1615.

It is possible that Joan Ford, first child of Thomas Ford and Elizabeth Charde was named Joan in 1617 in honor of the deceased first wife, which was not uncommon to do in those days. It is also possible that Henry Way, of Bridport, who also emigrated on the "Mary and John" at the same time as Thomas Ford, was related to Joane Way. Based on this reasoning, some have concluded that Thomas Ford probably first married Joane Way. I think "probably" may be too strong a word. I will go with Thomas Ford "may" have first married Joane Way and they may have had a daughter named Sarah or Mary.

We are unable to find record of parents of Elizabeth Charde. Numerous on-line records show Thomas Charde, but there is absolutely no record of this. There are some Charde wills and Charde tax records in Dorset, but even though the name of Thomas Charde does appear in some of these records there is nothing to indicate that he is a father of Elizabeth.

Thomas Ford, Elizabeth Ford, Joanna Ford, Abigail Ford, Hepzibah Ford and Aaron Cooke arrived in Dorchester, Massachusetts in 1630. In 1637 Thomas Ford moved to Windsor and in1672 to Northhampton where he died 28 Nov 1676.

Elizabeth Charde died in Windsor 18 Apr 1643.

Some have said that Thomas Ford has more descendants than any other male New England immigrant. I do now know if that is true or not, but he certainly has lots of descendants. He had three confirmed daughters who lived to procreation age. Joanne married Roger Clapp and they had 45 grandchildren. Abigail married John Strong, they had 16 children and 143 grandchildren. Hepzibah married Richard Lyman and had 8 children and 43 grandchildren. That is a total of 231 great grandchildren for Thomas Ford and Elizabeth Charde from only 3 daughters. Plus Elizabeth Charde has additional descendants through her son Aaron Cook. As each generation multiplies itself, with the kind of start their descendants had, it would be virtually impossible for a later generation to catch up to them in numbers. Some notable descendants of Thomas Ford and Elizabeth Charde include Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Princess Diana, Spencer Tracy, the Wright brothers, Samuel Colt, Rutherford B Hayes, Mike Huckabee, D.H. Lawrence, Sarah Palin, and Harriet Beecher Stowe. Gary Boyd Roberts' books mentions these and many other prominent descendants.
