BIOGRAPHY FROM GENEALOGICS.ORG:
Heribert was born about 879, the son of Heribert I, comte de Vermandois, and Bertha de Morvois. He was count of Vermandois and count of Troyes.

He inherited the domain of his father and in 907 he added to it the Saint de Soissons abbey. His marriage with Adela (also known as Liégarde) of Neustria brought him the county of Meaux. In 918 he was also named count of Mézerais and of the Véxin. With his cousin Bernhard, count of Beauvais and Senlis, he constituted a powerful group in the west of France, to the north and east of Paris. In 923 he imprisoned King Charles III in Château-Thierry, then in Péronne. He and his wife Adela, daughter of Robert I, king of France, and his wife Aelis, had seven children of whom Adela, Robert, Adalbert and Liutgarde would have progeny.

In 922 the archbishop of Reims, Seulf, called on Heribert to reduce some of his vassals who were in rebellion against him. On the death of Seulf in 925, with the help of Raoul, king of France he acquired for his second son Hugues (then five years old) the archbishopric of Reims, which had a large inheritance in France and Germany. In 926, on the death of Roger, count of Laon, Heribert demanded this county for Eudes, his eldest son. He settled there, initially against the will of King Raoul, and constructed a fortress there. Raoul yielded to pressure to free King Charles III 'the Simple', whom Heribert still held in prison.

In 930 Heribert took the castle of Vitry-en-Perthois at the expense of Boso, the brother of King Raoul. Raoul united his army with that of Hugues, marquis of Neustria, and in 931 they entered Reims and defeated Hugues, the son of Heribert. Artaud became the new archbishop of Reims. Heribert II then lost, in three years, Vitry, Laon, Château-Thierry and Soissons. The intervention of his ally, Emperor Heinrich I 'the Fowler', allowed him to restore his domains (except Reims and Laon) in exchange for his submission to King Raoul.

Later Heribert allied with Hugues 'the Great', duke of the Franks, and Guillaume I 'Longsword', duke of Normandy, against King Louis IV, who allocated the county of Laon to Roger II, the son of Roger I, in 941. Heribert and Hugues 'the Great' took back Reims and captured Artaud. Hugues, the son of Heribert, was restored as archbishop. Again the mediation of the German King Otto I, in Visé near Liège, in 942 allowed for the normalisation of the situation.

Heribert II died on 23 February 943 without having succeeded in building the principality of which he dreamed. His succession was reconciled by Hugues 'the Great', maternal uncle of his children. It took place in 946 and led to an equitable distribution between Heribert's sons.

BIOGRAPHY FROM GENEALOGICS:
Pippin was born about 815, the only son of Bernhard I, king of Italy, and Kunigund of Laon. He was the first comte de Vermandois, as well as comte de Senlis, Péronne et Saint Quentin.

Pippin first appears in 834 as a count to the north of the Seine and then appears as the same again in 840. In that year he supported Lothar I against his father Emperor Louis 'the Pious'.

Pippin's wife is unknown, but his heir Heribert inherited much Nibelungid territory and so historian K. F. Werner hypothesised a marriage to a daughter of Theodoric Nibelung. Of his four children only Heribert would have progeny. Pippin's year of death is not known with certainty. As Heribert's year of birth is given as about 850, this suggests that Pippin must have lived to about then.

BIOGRAPHY FROM GENEALOGICS.ORG:

Adelais was born about 950, the daughter of Robert, comte de Meaux et (jure uxoris) Troyes, and Adelheid de Bourgogne, heiress of Troyes.

Adelais married Geoffroy I, comte d'Anjou, son of Foulques II 'the Good', comte d'Anjou, and Gerberge de Tours. They had two daughters and a son, all of whom would have progeny.

Adelais died on 21 July 987.

4316 I am unable to find a spouses name for Benjamin. Some of the online genealogies are mixed up with other Benjamins. In particular, Anna Merwin and Naomi Palmer are spouses to other Benjamin Irishs.

Per "The Settlers of the Beekman Patent Vol 7 P148" Benjamin does not appear on the 1790 Census and there are no probate records for him in Washington County, New York.

4321 I do agree that Amanda and Eve are the same person. The July 1850 Federal census lists Amanda in the Judith Irish household as age 6 months for a birthdate of around Jan 1850. The 1919 death certificate of Eve (Irish) Terry in Oakland County, Michigan lists birthdate of 2 Jan 1850. It also lists her father as Norman Irish. (As Norman died in 1846 this cannot be her correct father.) Her mother’s name is not listed. The Jan 1850 birthdate ties both of these together and makes it quite clear that Eve and Amanda are the same person.

The parentage of Eve/Amanda is more complicated, but we gain useful information from Divorce cases filed in Oakland County.

For example; on 28 Jan 1848 Sarah Jane Irish filed for divorce from Liberty B Irish. She alleges an adulterous relationship her husband is having with Judith Irish (the widow of Liberty’s brother, Norman, who died in June 1846 from ‘the kick of a horse’). She alleges that this relationship began in Mar 1847. She further states that he became intimate or strongly attached to Judith beginning in July 1846. This case was apparently dropped.

A second case was filed by Sarah Jane on 7 Jun 1853. In this case Sarah Jane alleges that Liberty is recognized as the father of an illegitimate child, born to Judith in Jan 1850. (This of course would be Amanda/Eve, although the child was not named.) This case was also apparently dropped.

A third case was filed 12 Aug 1859 by Sarah Jane. No case record appears in the file. This case was dismissed 8 Oct 1859.

A fourth case was filed 13 Mar 1862, this time by Liberty. He claims that Sarah Jane has abandoned and deserted him. Sarah Jane contests this stating that Liberty wants the divorce so he can marry Judith. She also states that both Liberty and Judith were arrested for assault with intent to murder her. Liberty was not tried. But Judith was tried, convicted and sent to prison. She was since released. She states that Liberty lived with Judith up until the conviction and again moved in with Judith when she was released. This case was dismissed 21 Jan 1865.

It would seem from these records that Liberty had a relationship with Judith beginning perhaps in 1846 and extending, perhaps off and on, for at least 16 years. It would also seem that Liberty is indeed the father of Eve/Amanda. (We can be certain that Norman is not the father.)

We also do not find a record of a completed divorce from Sarah Jane or a marriage to Judith. However, Liberty certainly had a lengthy relationship with Judith, which apparently resulted in a child.

The parentage of Maria/Mariah should be listed as Norman and Judith. Although not impossible, there is simply no evidence of a relationship between Judith and Liberty prior to 1846
1/1/2009 per Gayle Zimmerman, she is not convinced that Amanda and her sister Eve are two separate people. Also as Norman died in 1846 Amanda and/or Eve are probably the child(ren) of Liberty Irish, who Judith was having an affair with. See divorce records under media.

4322 I have seen 21 Jun for her birthdate. This could be confusion over how Quakers entered dates. 21st day of 3rd month in year 1755. Under the old calender the 3rd month was June. However the old calender was supposed to change to the new calendar in 1752. So 3rd month would be March, unless these Quakeres were still using the old calendar.

Friend's Records at East Hoosuck (Adams), Mass., in The New England Historical and Genealogical Register. (Boston: New England Historic Genealogical Society), 19. Anna [Upton] his [Isaac] wife born at Rochester ye 21st of ye 3rd mo 1755 Anna Upton departed this life the 28 of 10 mo 1822.

4323 I have shown that the Samuel Allen who married Lydia Hastings is not the same Samuel Allen who is the father of Elizabeth. His daughter Elizabeth has a different birthday, lives in a different town and has a different husband. This line shows up in the on-line family trees and the OneWorldTrees, but it is proven to be incorrect. The details are as follows.

Baker in "Montville" shows that Lydia Hastings, dau of John Seaborn Hastings and Lydia Champney, married Samuel Allen of Massachusetts. They had a daughter Elizabeth Allen b. abt 1716 who married Jedidiah Graves. The Barbour Collection shows Elizabeth Allen married Jedidiah Graves June 1737 in East Haddam, Connecticut. The only way to reconcile this would be to say that Baker has the birth date of Elizabeth wrong and that she first married Samuel in 1732 and secondly married Jedidiah in 1737. BUT, according to The Barbour Collection Samuel Dewey and Elizabeth were continuing to have children until 1742, which means she could not have married Jedediah in 1737, thus she is a different person.

4345 In 1652, a year before the death of his father, Gabriel Maser was a schoolmaster at Swiss Emmental case-Umstadt and then in 1658 after Lengfeld. It is likely that in 1652 he followed a call or a recruitment of the Palatinate rulers in Heidelberg, in the Odenwald to represent the teachings of the Reformed Church and to teach by teaching. Already in the 16th Century, the rulers had decided after a kofessionellen back and forth for the Calvinist direction. 1576, while many reformietrte officials, preachers and school teachers were expelled, because the then ruler of the Lutheran doctrine known but already in 1583 was the Calvinistic doctrine introduced in the country. 4349 In 1850, 1860 and 1870 census there is a Jeanette, Gennett, Jannet Wetherby in the household born 1840

In the 1810 Federal census for Cayuga County there is 1 female child in the household of John Wetherby in the age range of Sophia. In the War of 1812 pension record of Simeon Phelps, two people state that they were present at the wedding of Simeon and Sophia which was held in the John Wetherby household in Brutus. One of those two furthur states that John Wetherby is the father of Sophia.

On Simeon Phelps probate filed in 1859, Sophia is administrator. Her mark is witnessed by David Wetherby and L.?. Wetherby. Also the inventory appraisers are Wm? Wood and Lyman Wetherby. Figuring that all of those Wetherby's are related to her. David Wetherby was b. 1820. Lyman Wetherby, his brother was b. 1804. They are children of John Wetherby b. 1778/Eunice Unknown.

It appears that John1778's first child was b. 1799, with some trees showing unknown child b. 1796. I have not found a source for the unknown child. (apparently from the age range of children on the 1810 census)

John1778/Eunice Unknown have a grandchild b. 1837 son of John named John Cutting Wetherby. (The Phelps book says Sophia was a daughter of Unknown Wetherby and Emma Cutting.)

John1778's parents were John Wetherby1745/Mary Newton.

John1745 had a child 1794 with Martha Sawtell (possibly his last child), a second marriage.

I could not find any probate records in Cayuga County for John Wetherby.

Cannot find her in the 1855 New York Census. It appears that Wayne County was not covered, although Cayuga was.

The 1850 census has Jannett Wetherby b. 1840 living in the household. Unable to place her. Also Almira/Elmira Williams b. 1848 in the household, who apparently is the child of David Williams (b. 1812 in Galen, Wayne, New York) and Philena Nickerson who live next door. Granger Phelps appears in the Williams household. Unable to find a Williams connetion to Sophia or Simeon.

Total value 49-15-00 [Another comment was added 20 Jun 1691 by Justices John Ward and Thomas Johnson concerning the settlement of land between Hannah Tichenor and John Baldwin Junr.]

The will confirms John using the terms "my uncle William Camp," which in turn confirms the William Camp being the brother of Abigail Camp, both of whom are the children of Nathaniel and Sarah Camp.

4365 In spite of various on-line trees we have no solid evidence of the parentage of Henry Lyman.

Donald Lines Jacobus, in his article (TAG Vol. 30 [1954] pp. 187-190), says only that Henry Lyman (father of Richard the emigrant) was "quite probably son of an earlier Henry and Joan."
Lyman, Henry (I2588)

4366 In the 1800 Federal Census in Ulster County we only show two possible Minard families. They are both entered on the census record in New Paltz as Miner. There is a James Miner and a Joel Miner. In both 1790 and 1810 we find no Miners, however we do find Minards in Ulster County in both of those years. I believe the name spelling was an error by the census taker. Possibly Junior in Kingston is the father and James in New Paltz is James the III.

The 1800 census for James Miner in New Paltz shows:
males under 10 two
males 10-16 one
males over 45 one
females 10-16 one
females 16 to 26 2 two
females over 45 1

The 1790 census has James Minard Jr in Kingston, Ulster, New York,

Notes from Descendants of James & Abigail (Camp) Minard : Quakers of Ulster County, NY by Ross W McCurdy 2011:
James Minard married Abigail Camp, daughter of Isaac Camp and Sarah Clark. They had twelve known children. He was living in Lebanon, Connecticut in 1771 and Kingston, New York in 1799. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in New York and Ontario.

Birthdate-Our best guess is about 1745, based upon wife being born 1747 and children starting 1768, however that is just a guess.

Many trees have James C. Minard. Where did the 'C' come from? I finally figured that out. Massachusetts vital records have a James C. Minard dying in Attleboro, Mass 6 Mar 1835 at age 45. That means born 1790. That cannot be our guy.

Related to the above, many trees have a death date of 6 Mar 1835. Again wrong person.

Many trees have parents of David Minard and Rebeckah Richards. Where did that come from? In the Early Connecticut Vital Records we have David Minard marrying Rebeckah Richards on 20 Mar 1722. In the Barbour collection we have James 'Menoid' son of David and Rebeckah born 2 Dec 1729. David and Rebeckah also have 3 other children Andrew 12 Dec 1724, David 30 Nov 1722 and Sarah 6 Jan 1727. We also see some trees having 1729 as James Birth date. As our James was having children as late as 1797, it is safe to say that is not our James. However, it is possible that James is the father of our James. We currently have no evidence pointing to that, though.

Death date-We already know that 1835 is incorrect. We have found a Quaker marriage record in Marlborough, New York for 'William Minard, son of James and Abigail (both deceased), and Keziah Young'. William is already in our tree as a son, Keziah would be a 2nd wife later in life. That record is dated 2 Jul 1834. Thus both James and Abigail died prior to that date.

That marriage record is located at https://www.familysearch.org/library/books/records/item/173411-quaker-meeting-records-state-of-new-york-ulster-county-columbia-county-albany-county-clinton-county?viewer=1&offset=0#page=88&viewer=flip&o=info&n=0&q= Unfortunately the link only takes you to the beginning of the book. You would have to scroll to page 89. A quicker way is to click on the thumbnails icon on the bottom of the page (the 2nd icon from the bottom left) Then look for thumbnail 89 and click on it.

A James Minard served in the Connecticut Militia during the Revolutionary War. We do not know if that was the same person.

4391 It is claimed that Thomas married Elizabeth Ferguson on 14 May 1634 in Dorchester.

Anderson in: the Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to N.E. 1620-1633, Vols. I-III, NEHGS Boston, 1995p. 966, just lists her as Elizabeth ___, born about 1617; she married second, James Eno as his third wife.

TAG: Vol 57: 1981: p. 66: the common statement that his wife Elizabeth's name was Ferguson, is highly improbably and completely undocumented.

The above is also stated in TAG. Vol. 58: 1982 p. 125 and again in TAG: Vol. 60:1984 : p. 185, the last stating Torrey erroneously included her name as Ferguson in New England Marriages.

4397 James Ervin Bates, Sr. died on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in Tawas City, after a brief but brave battle with lung cancer. He was 74.

Jim was born in Bay City, September 11, 1942, to the late Edward Sr. and Alice (Chambers) Bates. He spent much of his life there, but also lived in Nevada, Texas, California, and Colorado, before returning to Michigan.

Jim loved the outdoors, fishing, and working in the tree cutting business with his father, Edward, until his death in 2001. When he wasn't enjoying a bit of fun at Saganing Casino in Standish, his favorite pastime was grilling out on a charcoal grill. To him, you just couldn't get good flavor from a gas grill. Neighbors will also remember Jim's rummage sales as well as his passion for fixing up and repairing broken items, so they could be enjoyed again. He truly was a jack of all trades, including auto mechanics.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Debra; children, James (Laurie) Bates, Lisa (Chris) Lombardo, Daniel Bates, Joshua Bates, Jeremiah Bates, Jason Bates; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; his adopted daughter, Patti; siblings, Sandra LaRose, Edward Bates III, Ray (Brenda) Bates, Barbara (Dan) Gromaski, Pat (Mike) Gordon and Sandra Rulason; his good friend, B.C., and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, he is survived by sisters in law, Dorthy and Toni, and brothers in law, Johnny, Billy and Ronald. Jim was preceded in death by his son, Johnny.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held, during a Memorial Dinner, at the St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 206 Scheurmann St, Essexville, Michigan on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 1pm.

The family would like to thank Iosco County Medical Care Facility, its staff and all of his aides and his therapist. The family would also like to thank the Reverence Hospice Team for their wonderful care.

In lieu of floral arrangements, please consider donating to the family to help cover Jim's final expenses, or you can donate to St. Luke's UMC of Essexville.
