David Irish 1783-1855
gnjones286 (View posts) Posted: 27 May 2000 12:00PM GMT
Classification: Query
Surnames: Irish, Brown, Osborn, Osborne, Graham, Sutton, Darling, Ferdenbough
Uriah Irish was born about 1822 and died July 18, 1901. Uriah was married to Jemina Brown (b. abt. 1828) and they had a daughter, Mary Jane Irish, who was born about March, 1850 and died on February 24, 1909. Mary Jane Irish married Alfred Osborn about 1872. Alfred Osborn was born about Sept. 1848 and died November 26, 1911. He was the son of Allen Osborn(e).
The children of Mary Jane Irish and Alfred Osborn were:
1. Mortimer Osborn b. abt. 1873
2. Uriah A. Osborn 12/12/1880 - 10/25/1966
3. Ernest Leslie Osborn 8/28/1883 - 3/3/1963
4. Arletta M. Osborn abt. 1886 - 10/13/1888
5. Thomas Osborn b. abt. 4/1887
6. Frank Osborn 6/8/1890 - 12/20/1969
7. Eugene Osborn 12/16/1893 - 2/21/1971
Child 3 above was my spouse's grandfather. He was married to Jennie M. Brown, daughter of Charles Brown and Martha (Marilla) Graham.
Jenny M. Brown abandoned Ernest Leslie Osborn after 1933 with 13 children to raise sometime during the great depression years. The State of Michigan took the children from Ernest and most of these children ended up in foster homes. Ernest Leslie Osborn died in Tuscola County, Michigan in 1963.
We would like to learn information regarding any of the above mentioned individuals and especially what became of Jennie M. Brown, direct descendant of David Irish.
Thank you in advance! | Osborn, Alfred (I4953)

David Maxfield's birth date from his death record would place his birth to when his father was married to Acenath Young. This would conflict with the New Hampshire birth record of 18 Jan 1803 for David, son of Joshua and Sarah. I suspect that the death record is incorrect in regards to the birth date. It is also possible that the 1803 David died young and his name was reused by Joshua and his second wife. | Maxfield, David (I3396)

Death certificate shows parents are father/Furler mother/Godfrey.
I have found five documents with Leah's maiden name; two spell it Furlow (son Eli's marriage record, dau Louisa's first marriage record) and 3 spell it Furler (dau Louisa's second marriage, Leah's Death Certificate, dau Louisa's 3rd marriage). Canadian research seems to indicate the family name was actually Furler. A Civil War Widow's application filled out and signed by Leah Gordon, very clearly gives her maiden name as Furler. See http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~rykbrown/furler.htm for information on the Furler family in Canada.
Leah may be a sister to Sarah Furler, daughter of Cornelius Furler and Mary Godfrey. Their ages are 4 years apart, they lived in the same general area and death certificates of each list Furler and Godfrey as parents. Other sources list Cornelius Furler being married to Mary Ann Gallop. Perhaps Gallop and Godfrey, due to spelling or transcription errors refer to the same person or perhaps Cornelius had multiple wives.
Sarah Furler married James Felker. Their son Walter married Mary Gordon, the daughter of James and Leah. In fact Walter and Mary are living next to James and Leah's son Stephen Gordon in the 1880 census. On the same census in the next household are James Felker and Sarah Furler. If Leah and Sarah are sisters, then that would mean that their children are in a first cousin marriage. Perhaps their relationship is something else.
Also of Interest; Judy G has an autosomal DNA match with a descendant of Sarah Furler with 1 segment of 29 cM's in common. If Leah and Sarah are sisters, this would be a relationship of 3rd cousin once removed. If, for example, Leah and Sarah were 1st cousins, this relationship would become 4th cousin once removed. Both of those relationships could be consistent with 29 cM's in common. In any case, I think that we can be certain the Leah and Sarah Furler are somehow related.

There is a Franklin Leggett on Find A Grave. Born 1833 died 1908. Lists his wife and kids. His sister is noted as a half sibling Mattie Elizabeth Leggett Brininstool born 1854 died 1953. Stephen Leggett father to Franklin has an informative obit on his find a grave site, he is buried in Maplewood cemetery Henrietta, lived in same farm since 1811 etc, mentioned his first wife but not her name.
