6209 In 1652, a year before the death of his father, Gabriel Maser was a schoolmaster at Swiss Emmental case-Umstadt and then in 1658 after Lengfeld. It is likely that in 1652 he followed a call or a recruitment of the Palatinate rulers in Heidelberg, in the Odenwald to represent the teachings of the Reformed Church and to teach by teaching. Already in the 16th Century, the rulers had decided after a kofessionellen back and forth for the Calvinist direction. 1576, while many reformietrte officials, preachers and school teachers were expelled, because the then ruler of the Lutheran doctrine known but already in 1583 was the Calvinistic doctrine introduced in the country. 6212 In 1850 a Polly is in Fort Ann in the household of Amos Irish, brother to David. According to the Irish book she is a son of David, however David's line already contains several errors. Perhaps there are two Pollys. Irish, Polly Malinda (I4050)

6213 In 1850, 1860 and 1870 census there is a Jeanette, Gennett, Jannet Wetherby in the household born 1840

In the 1810 Federal census for Cayuga County there is 1 female child in the household of John Wetherby in the age range of Sophia. In the War of 1812 pension record of Simeon Phelps, two people state that they were present at the wedding of Simeon and Sophia which was held in the John Wetherby household in Brutus. One of those two furthur states that John Wetherby is the father of Sophia.

On Simeon Phelps probate filed in 1859, Sophia is administrator. Her mark is witnessed by David Wetherby and L.?. Wetherby. Also the inventory appraisers are Wm? Wood and Lyman Wetherby. Figuring that all of those Wetherby's are related to her. David Wetherby was b. 1820. Lyman Wetherby, his brother was b. 1804. They are children of John Wetherby b. 1778/Eunice Unknown.

It appears that John1778's first child was b. 1799, with some trees showing unknown child b. 1796. I have not found a source for the unknown child. (apparently from the age range of children on the 1810 census)

John1778/Eunice Unknown have a grandchild b. 1837 son of John named John Cutting Wetherby. (The Phelps book says Sophia was a daughter of Unknown Wetherby and Emma Cutting.)

John1778's parents were John Wetherby1745/Mary Newton.

John1745 had a child 1794 with Martha Sawtell (possibly his last child), a second marriage.

I could not find any probate records in Cayuga County for John Wetherby.

Cannot find her in the 1855 New York Census. It appears that Wayne County was not covered, although Cayuga was.

The 1850 census has Jannett Wetherby b. 1840 living in the household. Unable to place her. Also Almira/Elmira Williams b. 1848 in the household, who apparently is the child of David Williams (b. 1812 in Galen, Wayne, New York) and Philena Nickerson who live next door. Granger Phelps appears in the Williams household. Unable to find a Williams connetion to Sophia or Simeon.

6215 In 1880 Elmyra Hazen is living with Edward as a mother-in-law. . As Margaret Jordon did not die until 1921 it is most likely that Hazen is the name of a later spouse of Margaret Jordan's mother. Jordan, Margaret (I1141)

6227 In his will, John Baldwin refers to his "Uncle William Camp". John is the son of William Baldwin and Abigail Camp. Abigail Camp is a daughter of Nicholas Camp Jr. Thus making William Camp a brother to Abigail Camp and a son to Nicholas Camp.

: “Whereas I John Baldwin of Newark in the Government of New England being weak in body but of good understanding & memory do make this my Last will & Testament in manner & forme ffollowing. Lastly my will is that my uncle William Camp, & my neighbour Seth Tompkins being both my Loveing ffriends should be overseers to this my Last will & testament. In witness that this is my last will & Testament I have here unto sett my name & seale this twenty-fift day of December: 1688. John Baldwin Signed & sealed in the presence of us. John Browne, John Curtis. Appeared before me John Curtis & John Browne this 28 of November 1689 & took oath that this is the best of their knowledge the Last Will & Testament of John Baldwin of Newark Latly Deceased. Thomas Johnson, Justis.” The entry continues with an inventory taken Jan. 30, 1688[/9] taken by William Camp and Ephraim Burwell. Total value 49-15-00 [Another comment was added 20 Jun 1691 by Justices John Ward and Thomas Johnson concerning the settlement of land between Hannah Tichenor and John Baldwin Junr.]

The will confirms John using the terms "my uncle William Camp," which in turn confirms the William Camp being the brother of Abigail Camp, both of whom are the children of Nathaniel and Sarah Camp.

6229 In spite of various on-line trees we have no solid evidence of the parentage of Henry Lyman.

Donald Lines Jacobus, in his article (TAG Vol. 30 [1954] pp. 187-190), says only that Henry Lyman (father of Richard the emigrant) was "quite probably son of an earlier Henry and Joan."

6230 In the 1800 Federal Census in Ulster County we only show two possible Minard families. They are both entered on the census record in New Paltz as Miner. There is a James Miner and a Joel Miner. In both 1790 and 1810 we find no Miners, however we do find Minards in Ulster County in both of those years. I believe the name spelling was an error by the census taker. Possibly Junior in Kingston is the father and James in New Paltz is James the III.

The 1800 census for James Miner in New Paltz shows:
males under 10 two
males 10-16 one
males over 45 one
females 10-16 one
females 16 to 26 2 two
females over 45 1

The 1790 census has James Minard Jr in Kingston, Ulster, New York,

Notes from Descendants of James & Abigail (Camp) Minard : Quakers of Ulster County, NY by Ross W McCurdy 2011:
James Minard married Abigail Camp, daughter of Isaac Camp and Sarah Clark. They had twelve known children. He was living in Lebanon, Connecticut in 1771 and Kingston, New York in 1799. Descendants and relatives lived mainly in New York and Ontario.

Birthdate-Our best guess is about 1745, based upon wife being born 1747 and children starting 1768, however that is just a guess.

Many trees have James C. Minard. Where did the 'C' come from? I finally figured that out. Massachusetts vital records have a James C. Minard dying in Attleboro, Mass 6 Mar 1835 at age 45. That means born 1790. That cannot be our guy.

Related to the above, many trees have a death date of 6 Mar 1835. Again wrong person.

Many trees have parents of David Minard and Rebeckah Richards. Where did that come from? In the Early Connecticut Vital Records we have David Minard marrying Rebeckah Richards on 20 Mar 1722. In the Barbour collection we have James 'Menoid' son of David and Rebeckah born 2 Dec 1729. David and Rebeckah also have 3 other children Andrew 12 Dec 1724, David 30 Nov 1722 and Sarah 6 Jan 1727. We also see some trees having 1729 as James Birth date. As our James was having children as late as 1797, it is safe to say that is not our James. However, it is possible that James is the father of our James. We currently have no evidence pointing to that, though.

Death date-We already know that 1835 is incorrect. We have found a Quaker marriage record in Marlborough, New York for 'William Minard, son of James and Abigail (both deceased), and Keziah Young'. William is already in our tree as a son, Keziah would be a 2nd wife later in life. That record is dated 2 Jul 1834. Thus both James and Abigail died prior to that date.

That marriage record is located at https://www.familysearch.org/library/books/records/item/173411-quaker-meeting-records-state-of-new-york-ulster-county-columbia-county-albany-county-clinton-county?viewer=1&offset=0#page=88&viewer=flip&o=info&n=0&q= Unfortunately the link only takes you to the beginning of the book. Since the death of his wife, he had resided with his son George. On
Sunday last he seemed in his usual health and had spent part of the dayvisiting at another son's. When he returned home he lay down uponthe bed and was there found dead, the end coming evidently without astruggle.
The funeral was held at the ME Church in Loomis, services being
conducted by Rev. PARSONS of Coleman, and interment in cemetery atLoomis. The very large attendance at the funeral attested the worth ofthe deceased and the high esteem in which he was held.Date: 23 Nov 2002

6246 information provided by Theresa Hess Jennings -

Maria Katharina Herstein married Konrad Bell who was born 1873 in Kukkus, son of George Philip Bell and Anna Katharina Metzker. Per her obituary, they were married on Nov 15, 1894, in Omsk Russia. At the time, it is my understanding that the Bell family was living in a village called Popovka, outside Omsk. They migrated to the US in 1901 and did not have any children at the time, which makes me think that perhaps they were married later than 1894. Maria Katharina's 1944 marriage certificate to her 2nd husband Johann Georg Balzer notes that her parents were "Peter Herstein and Maria Katherine Floch".

She is listed in Family #104 in the 1857 Stahl am Tarlyk census with her parents, she is age 4. Her full name was Anna Katharina Metzker. In about 1894, Katharina Metzker Bell and her 4 children migrated east to a village outside Omsk Siberia. Katharina Metzker Bell migrated to the US in 1903 with her daughters, Katherine Elisabeth Bell Hess and Katherine Bell Metzker, and their families. 6260 It is claimed that Thomas married Elizabeth Ferguson on 14 May 1634 in Dorchester.

Anderson in: the Great Migration Begins: Immigrants to N.E. 1620-1633, Vols. I-III, NEHGS Boston, 1995p. 966, just lists her as Elizabeth ___, born about 1617; she married second, James Eno as his third wife.

TAG: Vol 57: 1981: p. 66: the common statement that his wife Elizabeth's name was Ferguson, is highly improbably and completely undocumented.

The above is also stated in TAG. Vol. 58: 1982 p. 125 and again in TAG: Vol. 60:1984 : p. 185, the last stating Torrey erroneously included her name as Ferguson in New England Marriages.

6261 It is uncertain if Johann Friedrich remarried after his first spouse died, or if there was only one spouse.

Johann Friedrich's child Georg Friedrich b. 1838 shows Christina Seib as mother on the St John's church death records in Lincoln, Nebraska. As the 1834 census shows Maria Katharina Unknown and 2 earlier children had Christina in their names, it seems a possibility that Maria Katharina Unknown may in all actuality be Maria Christina Seib. The confusion over the mothers name could be caused by a transcription or translating error on the 1834 census??? Pleve on his Reifschneider surname chart for Kukkus shows Maria Katharina as the mother also. He does not show two spouses or a deceased spouse.

If these two names represent two separate females, then Christina would have died after 8 Mar 1838, Georg Friedrich's birth date, and then Johann Friedrich remarried after that.
Reifschneider, Johann Friedrich (I23625)

6262 It is uncertain if Johann Friedrich remarried after his first spouse died, or if there was only one spouse.

6266 It seems very likely that they Wilhelmina Heizenraeder born 1799 on the 1834 census is the same Wilhelmina Heizenraeder born 1799 on the 1850 and 1857 census. There are no other Heizenraeder families in the area for it to be otherwise. Heizenraeder, Wilhelmina (I22135)

6268 J.S,-Notes for PETER GÖRINGER-GERINGER:
He and his wife and daughter sailed on the SS Merion from Liverpool on 2 May 1906 and arrived in Philadelphia, USA on 14 May 1906. His contact in the USA was his brother-in-law "Mr." Kukkus in Lincoln, NE, believed to be his wife's brother Heinrich-Henry.

A Peter Geringer, born 31 Jan 1876, filled out a WWI draft card in McGrew, Scotts Bluff County, NE, USA, and it lists a wife "Katie." If this is the same Peter, which in all liklihood it is, the bithdate and wife's name are incorrect.

Obituary taken from the Tuesday, January 22, 1935 edition of The Lincoln Star, Lincoln, Lancaster County, NE, USA: PETER GERINGER DEAD. Peter Geringer, 58, a resident of Lincoln for a number of years, died at his home at 717 New Hampshire street at 1 o'clock Tuesday morning. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and by four daughters, Mrs. Peter Faust, Mrs. Margaret Gates and Misses Anna and Katherine, all of Lincoln; and two brothers, Henry of Sugar City, Colo., and Phillip of Fresno, Cal. The body is at Splain, Schnell and Griffiths.

Jim and Hilde met in April, 1960 and they were married 3 months later in August of 1960. Hilde was new to the U.S. from Germany but they shared a love of music and musicals, which helped to bridge the language gap. They sang often together for their own pleasure. They lived for several years in Rochester, Mi, moving to Cape Coral, Fl in 1977. After raising their family, they retired to N. Ft Myers, Fl., in 2000, where Jim and Hilde lived in the Pine Lakes community. There he participated in cards, socializing and his favorite - the Men’s day luncheons.

James was a wonderful Husband and Father. He was an easygoing person, who always had a smile. He was very proud of his 4 girls, and as the family grew, his happiest times were celebrating the Holidays and all of the many mile stones of a large and growing Family. We are really going to miss him and the stories he would tell of growing up in the “old” days.

Arrangements for cremation were made by Northside Chapel, Roswell, Ga. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 23rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Northside Chapel. 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, GA.

6274 James Ervin Bates, Sr. died on Tuesday, December 27, 2016 in Tawas City, after a brief but brave battle with lung cancer. He was 74.

Jim was born in Bay City, September 11, 1942, to the late Edward Sr. and Alice (Chambers) Bates. He spent much of his life there, but also lived in Nevada, Texas, California, and Colorado, before returning to Michigan.

Jim loved the outdoors, fishing, and working in the tree cutting business with his father, Edward, until his death in 2001. When he wasn't enjoying a bit of fun at Saganing Casino in Standish, his favorite pastime was grilling out on a charcoal grill. To him, you just couldn't get good flavor from a gas grill. Neighbors will also remember Jim's rummage sales as well as his passion for fixing up and repairing broken items, so they could be enjoyed again. He truly was a jack of all trades, including auto mechanics.

He is survived by his wife of 17 years, Debra; children, James (Laurie) Bates, Lisa (Chris) Lombardo, Daniel Bates, Joshua Bates, Jeremiah Bates, Jason Bates; 12 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren; his adopted daughter, Patti; siblings, Sandra LaRose, Edward Bates III, Ray (Brenda) Bates, Barbara (Dan) Gromaski, Pat (Mike) Gordon and Sandra Rulason; his good friend, B.C., and many nieces and nephews. Additionally, he is survived by sisters in law, Dorthy and Toni, and brothers in law, Johnny, Billy and Ronald. Jim was preceded in death by his son, Johnny.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held, during a Memorial Dinner, at the St. Luke's United Methodist Church, 206 Scheurmann St, Essexville, Michigan on Friday, January 6, 2017 at 1pm.

The family would like to thank Iosco County Medical Care Facility, its staff and all of his aides and his therapist. The family would also like to thank the Reverence Hospice Team for their wonderful care.

In lieu of floral arrangements, please consider donating to the family to help cover Jim's final expenses, or you can donate to St. Luke's UMC of Essexville.

6282 Jan Beselie (whose name also appears as Baysley, Beasly & Bezelie) was born in France. Hew married Grace about 1683 based on birth of children. He died between 16 March 1687 (when he baptized a son) and 19 feb 1689 when his widow remarried. Beselie, Jan (I9189)

6283 Jan was likely born in abt 1674 in France or England. His parents, Jean Le Fauchuer and Judith Enrion, are known to have been living in England and part of the ThreadNeedle Huguenot Church in London in 1682 at the birth of his brother, Pierre.[1][2]

Jan and Eva (his wife) Fouseer are 18th and 19th on the member list of the The Old Dutch Sleepy Hollow Reformed Church, Sleepy Hollow, Westchester County, New York.[3][4]

Disputed Death information
Jan's death date is uncertain. A "Jan Forseur" is buried in Harringtown, Bergen County, New Jersey, United States, but no date is given. Some unverified family trees show a date of 1732, others show a date of 1783 (which seems unlikely). A Find-a-grave entry is connected to this Jan, but some of the information is incorrect or can not be verified (For example Jan's father is shown married to Jan's wife and the children are not correct).[5] Further, Jan's father (of the same name) is given the same death date and location by some researchers.

A "Jan Vosie" is a baptism witness for Jan's son Isaac's child in baptism in 1757. It is possible that Jan was still living at this time or this Jan may be a relative.[6]

Marriage & Children
He married Eva Matthys in abt 1696 in New York.[citation needed] He was 22 and Eva was 21 when they wed.

Children

Alternate Surnames
David Cole, 1822-1903, who researched this family and several others for his 1876 book about the Cole Family, had this to say:

"The original name we think was 'Forsieur.' On the Reformed Church records it is most frequently written 'Forseur.' Other orthographies, which abound, as Fosjeur, Forsheur, Faseur, Fashaw, etc., are blunders of copyists. These are found in almost endless variety. Some of them so disguise the name that none but those familiar with the family connections could possibly detect it. The numerous descendants now write it Vorseur, Forseur, Forshee, Forshay, etc. One, a physician residing in Philadelphia, Pa., writes his name William W. Fouche. But the original, we think, was 'Forsieur.' In pronunciation, it followed the analogy of the familiar French term of address-'Monsieur.' The proverbial difticulty of this combination of letters to one not born to the French is sufficient to account for all the corruptions in spelling and pronunciation which, among a Holland people, grew in back centuries upon the word 'Forsieur.'
[16]
Theodore Melvin Banta 1834-1910, author of The Banta Genealogy notes:

:"Magdalena Banta married Jonathan Forseur, who was born January 15, 1733. She died 1776-7, and was buried in the old churchyard at Kakiat, Rockland County, N.Y. The names of their descendants are variously spent Forshay, Foshay, etc."

The first known wife was Barbara ____ born about 1809. She was the mother of his kids born up to at least 1834.
The second known wife was Rosina Barbara Adolph, born 3 Mar 1811 in Warenburg. This woman was married in Warenburg to a Georg Nicolaus Spomer that died about 1838, so the earliest she could have married in Kukkus would have been 1838.
Although the second wife could have been the mother of the Schaefer kid born in about 1839, given the gaps in birth years I assume that the 1839 kid came from the first wife, and the later ones came from the second.

6289 jds Notes for GEORG HEINRICH SCHÄFER:
His wife was Barbara, 25, in the transcription of the 1834 Kukkus Census, Rosina Adolph, 39, in 1850, and Rosina Barbara Adolph, 46, in 1857. Absent better information it is assumed that the wife in 1834 was not the same as in 1850 and 1850, and that the latter was the mother of his children born in about 1846 and thereafter.

6294 JDS Notes-
A note in the transcription of the 1886 Lauwe family lists indicates that he was drafted into the military in 1899 and subsequently discharged.
He and his wife, his mother, and two children sailed on the SS Gunther from Santos, Brazil on 16 May 1907 and arrived at NY, USA on 10 Jun 1907. Their last residence was Buenos Aires, Argentina. Birthplace for him, his mother, and elder child was Lauwe, for his wife it was Kukkus, and for the younger child Libau. His contact in the USA was his brother (also indicated as the son of his mother) Conrad Kuhn in Fresno, CA.

6295 JDS Notes-
AHSGR Fresno notes erroneously give his father's name as Conrad.
He, 59, his then wife Lisbeth, 50, son George, 21, daughter-in-law Marie, 21, grandchildren Heinrich, 2, and Kataryna, infant, stepson Johannes Reitz, 10, stepdaughter Lisbeth Reitz, 4 1/2, and stepson Heinrich Reitz, 10, sailed on the SS Caronia from Liverpool on 22 Dec 1906 and arrived at NY, USA on 30 Dec 1906. His contact in the USA was his daughter Mary --- (Lindegren ?) at 235 D Street in Fresno, CA. Last residences and birthplaces were Stahl am Tarlyk, though his wife and his stepchildren (her children by her first marriage) were actually born in Kukkus. A line appears through the name of George, indicating that either he did not actually board the ship, or that he was denied entry to the USA.

6298 JDS Notes-
George Schaefer had a daughter by his first wife named Maria Catharina born abt 1879 that is noted as marrying in 1901. You will see in your database that you don't have the husband, which would suggest that she married in another colony.
A Maria Catharina Schaefer married in Lauwe in 1901 to a Julius Markus that was born 12 Dec 1879 in Lauwe. This woman was not from Lauwe.
So, the name Maria Catharina Schaefer is a match, the marriage year is a match, and the girl in Kukkus has a clear connection to Lauwe, as both her mother and her step-mother were born there.
I'm going to link the two as one in my own files and include a note as to the reasoning.
This guy also had a son by his first wife named Georg born 21 Jul 1882. The wife of this Georg is an Anna Margaretha Felsing, married in 1904. Her age is 22 in the transcription, which must be the age at the time she married rather than in 1886, so she was born about 1882, presumably in Kukkus.
The problem is that there is no Anna Margaretha Felsing born in 1882 that appears in any Felsing household that would fit.
However, there is an Anna Margaretha Felsing, age 5, so born about 1880, that does appear, and what do you know, it says she married in 1904.
I suspect that her age was mistranscribed in one or the other household. What a surprise!!!
It's pretty hard to mistake a 2 for a something else, particularly as the age in her husband's household is 22, so the two two's would look alike.
On the other hand, it is very easy to see how a 3 could be mistaken for a 5, as I've seen in going through the Lauwe Family List.
As such, I think the Anna Margaretha, age 5, in 1886 HH 93 was actually 3, and her age was mis-transcribed.
This also makes sense in that a girl born in 1880 would have been expected to first marry in about 1900 give or take two years, whereas one born in 1882 would have been expected to first marry in about 1902 give or take two years.
It also makes sense in that spouses involved in a first marriage would be expected to be about the same age.
I'm going to merge these two and make note that the age 5 is probably 3 and mistranscribed.

He and his wife and daughter sailed on the RMS Lake Superior from Liverpool on 31 Dec 1901 and arrived at Saint John, NB, Canada on 13 Jan 1902. The name is spelled "Dothenburg" in the record. His contact in the USA was his brother __ (?) _ H. (?) "Dothenburg" on 8th Street in Lincoln, NE. Last residence was Samara, and birthplaces were Russia.

It is indicated that he and his wife and four children (Katharina, Johannes, Phillip, Amalia) moved to Michigan in the transcribed records of Immanuel German Congregational Church, Rocky Ford, Otero County, CO, USA.
