He sailed on the SS Pennsylvania from Hamburg on 12 Oct 1901 and arrived at NY, USA on 25 Oct 1901. His contact in the USA was his "brother" Georg in Lincoln, NE. As Andreas had no brother Georg, this contact is believed to have been Georg-George Hergenröder-Hergenrader (born 20 Sep 1876), who was actually a first cousin, once removed. (Andreas and Georg and their families appear to have traveled together from state to state between 1900 and 1910 based on the birthplaces of their children during those years.) JDS notes-Biography taken from page 2548 of "History of Fresno County California With Biographical Sketches of the Leading Men and Women of the County Who have been Identified with its Growth and Development from the Early Days to the Present," by Paul E. Vandor, Historic Record Company, Los Angeles, California, 1919: HENRY SCHNEIDER. - An enterprising viticulturist and horticulturist. Henry Schneider is well posted in that branch of agriculture, as his productive vineyard and orchards give testimony. He was born in Guges, Samara, Russia, August 21, 1888, and his father, George Schneider, was a farmer in that country and brought the family to Fresno in 1901. Here he engaged in ranching at Rolinda, where he bought a forty-acre ranch and cultivated the land until his retirement to Fresno in later life, where he now lives. The mother, Annie Felzing before her marriage, died in Fresno about 1913, and six children had been born to this worthy couple. The youngest child in the family, Henry Schneider was brought up on the home farm and received his education in the public schools of that country. After the family came to Fresno, in 1901, he assisted his father to care for the family and helped get a start by working out in vineyards. He then helped his father improve their own ranch until he reached twenty-one years, when he started out in life for himself, purchasing a twenty-acre ranch at Rolinda and improving it to vineyard, peaches and alfalfa. In the meantime, with his brother George he purchased forty acres of raw land in the Barstow district, and leveling it, set it out to Thompson grapes. Later they sold this property and Mr. Schneider devoted his entire time to his Rolinda ranch, which he operated until 1914, when he sold out and purchased his present twenty-acre ranch; this he also improved from the raw land and now has fifteen acres in Thompsons and the balance in apricot orchard. The marriage of Mr. Schneider, in Fresno, July 2, 1908, united him with Miss Lena Pretzer, born in Perrin Colony, and daughter of Jack Pretzer, a brother of Henry Pretzer, who were early settlers of Fresno County, coming here in the eighties. Her father was a rancher and vineyardist here but now is engaged in ranching at Chowchilla. Mrs. Schneider was educated in the public schools of Fresno County. They have three children: Lydia; John; and Harry. The family attends the Lutheran Church. Mr. Schneider is a member of the California Associated Raisin Company, and a man of progressive ideas and good judgment. | Schneider, Henry L (I17687)

His birthplace and that of the children was given as Kukkus, and his wife's was Bangert, though it is almost certain that the children were actually born in Lauwe.

JDS notes-This bio is for George born in 1883, but it talks about his parents, siblings, etc. He spelled his name Schneider as in Kukkus, but this bio and AHSGR Fresno death notes spell it Snyder. It is Schneider on his grave marker, so it seems that he may have been back to using Schneider at his death.
AHSGR Fresno notes give his father as "Adam Snyder" and his mother as "Mary Snyder." The father was actually Georg Adam Schneider born about 1825 in Kukkus, and the mother I think was Elisabeth Katharina Beltz born about 1827. "Mary Snyder" was likely a (bad) guess by some kid.
Biography taken from pages 2435-6 of "History of Fresno County California With Biographical Sketches of the Leading Men and Women of the County Who have been Identified with its Growth and Development from the Early Days to the Present," by Paul E. Vandor, Historic Record Company, Los Angeles, California, 1919: GEORGE SNYDER. - An energetic farmer who has succeeded as a horticulturist and viticulturist, and by so doing has advanced California agriculture and has added to the wealth of the state's improved resources, is George Snyder, who was born near Volks, Samara, Russia, on November 9, 1883, the son of George Schneider, who was a farmer there. One of his sons had come out to the United States and to Fresno County as early as 1900 and two years later the father brought his wife and the balance of the family to California and settled in Fresno. Here he engaged in farming and viticulture, and such was his reward that he is now able to live retired. Barbara Schneider, his wife, also lived for years in Fresno County, and here she died, the mother of four boys and two girls. Lizzie is Mrs. Busick of Fresno; Peter is a rancher near Barstow; Christine has become Mrs. Baude of Fresno; George is the subject of this review; and Conrad and Henry are ranchers not far away. George was brought up in his native place and educated there in the public schools; and when he was eighteen years of age he came, in May, 1902, to Fresno County. He soon went to work on a fruit ranch for one dollar and a quarter a day, but although he had to board himself, he saved and got ahead. For two seasons Mr. Snyder worked at haying for Robert Mclndoo, and when the latter sold out, he bought a team and outfit on time, and started teaming in Fresno. A year later he purchased a hay baler, and for nine seasons he teamed a part of the year and contracted to bale hay for the rest of the time. Then he leased an orchard and a vineyard of 120 acres at Parlier, where he went into partnership with Charles Scharer. He had previously raised grain on leased land with his brother Henry, thus acquiring some experience of value later, and then he had bought forty acres in Barstow, which he set out with Thompson seedless grapes and three years later sold at a profit. He and his partner now took charge of this peach orchard and vineyard of Thompson and Muscat grapes; but when the property was disposed of, they had to relinquish the lease. In 1916, he bought his present place of eighty acres in Barstow from Al Munger, and at once turned it to horticultural and viticultural purposes. He has twenty acres of apricots set between olive trees, and thirty acres of Elberta and Muir peaches, as well as Lovells; the peaches also being interset with olives. He also has a vineyard of thirty acres of Thompson grapes. His ranch is under an almost perfect system of irrigation; besides being under the Herndon Canal he also has a pumping plant. Mr. Snyder belongs to and actively supports the California Associated Raisin Company, the California Peach Growers, Inc., and the California Olive Growers' Association. On June 17, 1905, Mr. Snyder was married at Fresno to Miss Pauline Steitz, born in Fresno, a daughter of Daniel and Catherine (Seifert) Steitz, one of the first of eight families from his native land to locate in Fresno in 1887. Mr. Steitz became gardener for Einstein & Gundelfinger, also janitor of the Bank of Central California. He died in 1903 [sic, 1902]. A widow and four daughters survive him, of whom Mrs. Snyder is the oldest. She was educated in the Fresno schools. They have one daughter, Elsie. The family belong to the Free Cross Lutheran Church.

Marriage Notes for CATHARINA-KATHERINE REITZ and EDWARD LORENZ:
The license related to this marriage contains numerous oddities. The groom's surname is spelled Laurence, the bride's is spelled Riete or Rietc, the bride's father's given name is Philip, which was actually the name of an elder brother, the bride's mother's maiden name is Layman, and the record indicates that the license itself had not been returned as of Mar 1909, fully 13 months later. Tthe couple is enumerated in the 1910 Michigan Census under the surname Lawrence and indicaed as married 2 years. It is assumed that marriage did take place on the basis of this license, as the later divorce record gives the date of marriage as 21 Feb 1908.

JDS Notes:
It's clear from the 1834 Rev List that he'd been married at least twice.
In the absence of better information:
1) I would assume a first wife was the mother of his first three known kids, 1815, 1820, and 1822.
2) I would assumed his second wife was the mother of his kids born in 1827, 1829, and 1832.
3) The second wife was a Katharina Sophia Kriess, who I suspect came from the Griess (spelled as such) HH 216 in Norka in 1798, which appears to be the only place males with this surnamed existed in 1798. She was probably born after 1798 to one of the three eldest sons listed there.
The 1834 Rev List makes note that George Adam (Kriess) was the illegitimate son of Habermann's deceased wife Katharina Sophia, so we know she was unmarried in 1822 and could not be the mother of Habermann's eldest three kids.
Here's where things get complicated...
Lauwe marriage records show a Nov 1833 marriage (perhaps just the bann, with the marriage being a bit later) of Wilhelm Preuss (born about 1792) and a widow Margaretha Elisabeth Habermann born Schumann (born about 1801).
This widow I believe was the Margaretha Elisabeth Schumann born 19 Jul 1801 in Laub, married Andreas Heinrich Doos (9 Apr 1800 - 1825) of Dinkel, with whom she had five known kids, married Johann Friedrich Habermann of Kukkus sometime thereafter, and married Wilhelm Preuss of Lauwe in late 1833.
In looking across all non-Catholic colonies that have been transcribed, which includes pretty much any colony that this woman could have been widowed in, the only one with a male Habermann that died prior to 1834 that could possibly fit is Johann Friedrich Habermann in Kukkus, noted as dying in (about) 1833.
If I'm correct:
1) Habermann had some earlier wife (perhaps more than one) that was the mother of his first three known kids. This wife died as early as 1822, perhaps in childbirth.
2) Katharina Sophia (Griess-Kriess) could not have married Habermann any earlier than about 1823, as she had her illegitimate kid in 1822, probably in Norka, and Habermann also had a kid by his first wife in 1822. An unwed mother with and infant from another colony would be a good match for a recently-widowed guy with three kids, one being an infant, as both had infants needing support, and an unwed mother would often "leave town" to marry.
3) Margaretha Elisabeth (Schumann) was married to Habermann at the time of his death in (about) 1833, and could not have married him any earlier than very late 1825 as her Doos husband died in (about) 1825, and she had a child by him in Oct 1825. I would expect her to have remarried in about 1826, perhaps to Habermann, perhaps to someone else.
4) George Adam Kriess, being an illegitimate kid who clearly came to Kukkus with his mother, as he appears there in 1834 (and thereafter), was likely raised by Habermann nearly from infancy, and remained with Habermann after his mother's death.
5) The note about Kriess being the illegitimate son of Habermann's deceased wife Katharina Sophia is probably specific in naming her to make clear that she was not his last wife, and that George Adam was not of his last wife.
The only real questions that I think remain are:
1) When did Katharina Sophia die?
2) Who might Margaretha Elisabeth (Schumann) Doos have married in about 1826 if not Habermann?
3) When did Habermann marry Margaretha Elisabeth (Schumann) Doos … ?
That Habermann had no known kids between 1822 and 1827 suggests to me that Katharina Sophia was not the mother of those beginning in 1827. It's possible, of course, but seems like a large gap to have no surviving kids.
On the other hand, if Margaretha Elisabeth married Habermann in about 1826, she could easily have been the mother of those kids. This would mean that Katharina Sophia died in about 1825.
If Margaretha Elisabeth did not marry Habermann in about 1826, then she would have married someone else, been widowed, and then married Habermann later.
In any case, I think Margaretha Elisabeth had to be the wife of Habermann at the time of his death in (about) 1833.

His birth month varies by source between Jun and Jul.
He and his wife sailed on the RMS Lake Ontario from Liverpool on 1 Apr 1902 and arrived at Saint John, NB, Canada on 12 Apr 1902. His destination was Sioux City, and his contact was indicated to be his "uncle," presumably a man named Gottfried Schmidt. The record suggests that he was also traveling with his parents (listed just below in the record), but while the others in the party were undoubtedly related they do not appear to have actually been his parents.

JDS-Notes for AMALIA/MOLLIE JOHANNES:
She is suspected of being an illegitimate daughter of Maria Sophia Schengel later adopted by Johann Jacob Johannes.
Obituary found on the Internet: Mollie Nuss, daughter of Jacob and Maria Sophia (Schengel) Johannes, was born March 22, 1898, in Kukkus, Russia. Her death occurred on March 22, 1984, in the AlaFern Nursing Home after several years of failing health. Her age was 86 years. Mollie came to the U.S. with her parents when she was four years old. She received her basic education in the schools near the family home, and on May 4, 1920, was married to Adam Nuss at Milberger, KS. This union was blessed with one son, Marvin. Mollie moved with her family from the farm to Russell in 1940 when Adam began his carpentry trade. Mollie continued her work as a housewife, homemaker and mother, and for a number of years worked in the diet kitchen at the Russell City Hospital. She was a member of St. John Lutheran, Russell. After the death of her husband, Adam, on Nov. 13, 1976, she continued to live alone for a time until her health failed and she could no longer take care of herself. She then became a resident at the AlaFern Nursing Home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Adam; son, Marvin who died on April 16, 1982; a half-brother, Sigmund Karst; and four step-sisters: Bertha Peil, Hannah Popp, Dolly Lang and Amelia Nuss. She is survived by: three stepsons: Caesar Nuss, Russell; Herbert Nuss, Great Bend; Elmer Nuss, Valdosta, GA; two half-brothers: Henry Alvin Karst, Hutchinson; Herman Karst, Olmitz; sister Katie Radke, Wichita; half-sister: Marie Kramer, Hoisington. Other survivors are her daughter-in-law, Donna Nuss, of Amarillo, TX; and 2 grandchildren, Dane Nuss of Amarillo and Mrs. Gary (Marsha) Cooper of Enid, OK. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Monday, March 26, 1984 from the church, Rev. Herman Frerichs officiating. Burial church cemetery. Pohlmans Mortuary, Russell.

JDS-Notes for JOHANN HEINRICH DEBUS:
He and his wife and two children sailed on the SS Etruria from Liverpool on 15 Nov 1902 and arrived in NY, USA on 23 Nov 1902. His contact in the USA was his cousin Conrad Johannes in Lincoln, NE. This family was traveling with the related family of Johann Philipp Johannes (born 08 Aug 1841).
The family may have returned to Russia before Sep 1905, as the Pleve chart for the surname Debus suggests that they had another child in Kukkus on 3 Sep 1905, and that Johann Heinrich Debus died there on 20 May 1907. The Pleve chart for the surname Klemm gives the same death information for Johann Heinrich Debus. However, it is also possible that the family did not return and that details were simply sent back to Kukkus to be recorded in the church records there. Pleve charts frequently contain such "sent back" details with no indication that they are such, thus leading people to wrongly think that events occurred in Russia when they actually occurred in the USA or elsewhere.

Jesse Zephaniah Shultz was born in Michigan on 20 Sep 1853 (date per the inscription on his gravestone) to Jesse K Shultz and Hannah Mayberry.
In the 1860 census (indexed under Sultz) we find him living in Juniata, Tuscola, Michigan with his mother and other siblings.
In 1866 Jesse's sister, Lucinda and her husband Jesse Fox were named guardians of Jesse Z along with his siblings, Thomas and Harriet.(Tuscola County probate packet 1-89)
In 1870 we have a possible census entry in Luzerne County, Pa where a J Z Shultz (indexed as J G Shultz on ancestry.com), age 17, born in Michigan is living in the household of Samuel Gibbons (this may be his mother's brother) as a laborer. Everyone else in the household was born in Pennsylvania. It may be reasonable to assume that after the mother died in 1865 (the father having died in 1853), the family dispersed.
On 31 March 1875 Jesse Z married Mary Francis Dawson in Botetourt, Virginia per Virginia Marriage records.
In 1880 we find Zeph Schultz (age27,born Mich) and Francis Schultz (age26, born VA) living in Sherman, Grayson, Texas with their two children Jesse (age 4, born VA) and Freddie (age 2, Born W VA).
In 1888 we find the following birth record in the North Carolina Birth Index,1800-2000; (on ancestry.com.)
DOB: 7/20/1888
Name: Claire Schultz
Sex & Race: F W
Father: Jesse Z Schultz
Mother: Mary F Dawson
POB: Salisbury (Rowan County, North Carolina)
Vol: 196
Page: 112
(This is a delayed birth entry, it is not stated what the date of record was)
In 1900 we find in Buchanan, Botetourt, Virginia:
Jesse Z Schultz (indexed on ancestry.com as Ira Schultz) Sept 1853 Mi
Frannie wife (indexed as Fannie) Nov 1853 VA
Fred son July 1878 W VA
Roy son Sept 1884 VA
Claire daughter July 1888 NC
Paul son Nov 1892 VA
Andrew son Jan 1895 VA
In 1910 we find Jesse Z Schultz(Age 55, born MI) living in Chattanooga, Hamilton, Tennesee with his wife Mary F(age 56, Born VA) and two children Paul G (age 17, Born VA) and Andrew K (age 14, born VA).
In 1920 We find Jesse Z Schultz living in the household of William M Bogart in Stevenson, Jackson, Alabama. Jesse is listed as father-in-law. Jesse’s daughter Clair is married to William Bogart. (a oneworldtree entry for the Bogart family shows William Bogart married Clair Schultz who was born 20 July 1889).
In 1930 we find Jesse Z Schultz living in the household of William M and Claire Bogart in Stevenson, Jackson, Alabama.
A transcription of the Stevenson City Cemetery located on-line at <http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/al/jackson/cemeteries/stevcity1.txt>

JHS Notes:
In 1850 she was 2, and in 1857 she was 9. Given the dates of the revision lists, both ages tie back to 1848. If she was born in Feb 1847 these would clearly be 3 and 10.
AHSGR Fresno notes give her death date as 13 Nov 1912 with an age of 64 years, 8 months, 20 days. This would suggest a birth date of about 24 Feb 1848.
However, the same notes give a birth date of 23 Feb 1847, and her birth year is 1847 on her grave marker.
I think 24 (or 23) Feb 1848 is actually correct. AHSGR Fresno notes are generally more accurate on the ages rather than the dates, and I'm inclined to think someone subtracted and came up with the wrong date.
Ihave her as born 23-24 Feb 1848 with a note that her grave marker is believed to have the wrong year.

Johann Bernhard Becker born 25 Feb 1714 in Berghausen, Braunfels, Hesse, Germany and died there on 5 Feb 1760. On 26 Jun 1767 his widow Anna Maria and six of their children arrived in Kukkus, Samara, Russia as part of the original colonist group. In 1767 3 of the male children had established their own household, Johann Adam, David and Balzar. Jacob and Wilhlem were living with their mother and new husband, Christian Herbel. Jacob and Wilhelm would eventually form their own family group, leaving a total of 5 Becker households in Kukkus.
On the 1798 census in HH50 we have 3 children without parents. Apparently their father had recently died. They were born 1780, 1782 and 1784. Their father would be one of the 5 male children of Bernhard and Anna Maria. According to the 1798 census Johann Wilhelm and Baltasar were still living in 1798, thus neither can be the father. Johann Adam died before 1770, thus he cannot be the father. That leaves David and Johann Jakob. Although David had died after 1793, his six younger children in 1798 were in HH14 with his widow. Those children were born 1777, 1782, 1785, 1788, 1790 and 1793. It does not make sense that 3 children born 1780, 1782 and 1784 would be living in another household in 1798 as orphans. Those children are in a different family group. That leaves Johann Jakob as the only possibility for the father of these 3 children.
On the 1811 Census it shows Heinrich Andreas Becker (who is one of the 3 children in 1798 HH50) living in HH19 with Andreas Rosenthal who is married to Katharina Margaretha Becker b. 1777. Thus suggesting that Katherina is also a member of Johann Jakob's family. The two other children were females. The 1811 census only shows males.

Baltasar, Jacob and Wilhelm were too young to have a child in 1769, David b. 1748 is old enough, however he had a different child in 1769. Johann Adam b. 1744 makes the most sense to be the father of Heinrich Konrad. Adam also has a son named Johann Adam. | Becker, Heinrich Konrad (I25791)

She had been born 14 October 1714 in Lichtenklingen. They have two sons who were born in Lichtenklingen: Georg Peter (born 4 February 1745) and Georg Leonhard (born 14 March 1749).
The Rothermel family immigrated first to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) and then on to Russia in 1763. They arrived in the colony of Anton on 7 September 1764. They are recorded there on the 1767 census in Households No. 6 (Georg), No. 16 (Peter), and No. 24 (Leonhard).

Johann George Reitz appears in the Kukkus church records. Apparently he and his siblings were added there after the parents left Kukkus in 1898. This would explain why Dr. Pleve shows the entire family in Kukkus, as he build his chart, in part, from the church records!

Johann Michael Johann, son of Hans Michael & Eva Johann, was born on 28 February 1739 in Ober-Schönmattenweg (east of Weinheim), today in Baden-Württemberg. He was baptized on 4 March 1739 in Wald-Michelbach. He immigrated to Denmark (Schleswig-Holstein) and settled in the colony of Veltenhof. He married on 26 May 1760 in the colony of Fredericia (Denmark) to Eva Margaretha Sattler. She was born in about 1736 in Affolterbach.
They immigrated to Russia in 1763, and arrived in the colony of Anton on 7 September 1764. They and their children are recorded on the 1767 census of Anton where Michael is serving as the Vorsteher (mayor) in Household No. 1.

John Burrows was born at Wethersfield, Hartford County, CT in 1642. He was the son of Robert and Mrs. Mary (Ireland) Burrows. He was married in New London County, CT on 14 December 1670 to Hannah Culver. Hannah was the daughter of Edward and Ann Ellis Culver. She was born 11 Apr 1651 and died abt. 1731. John Burrows became a freeman in October 1669 at New London, CT. The part of New London that he lived in became Groton in 1705. He was the sole heir of his father and inherited a large amount of land.
John and Hannah Burrows became members of the First Congregational Church of Stonington, CT on 3 January 1685/86. The members who lived long distances from the church petitioned for a site for a church on the Groton side of the river. The pastor, Rev. Saltonstall opposed this and the differences became bitter. John Burrows must have been on who opposed the pastor's views, because there is a record "John Burrows was re-admitted July 20, 1701, having been suspended for offense to Mr. Saltonstall".
On 12 February 1716, John Burrows died at Groton, CT without leaving a will. He had previously given his large land holdings to his son, John. His inventory was valued at 249 pounds, 6 shillings and 4 pence. Among the items found in the inventory of his estate was "1 bedd and beding for the negro Gearle". John is buried in the Wightman Burying Ground at Groton, CT. His grave is covered with a large flat stone known as a "wolf stone" to keep the grave from being dug up by animals.

John Porter was baptized at Felstead, Essex, England 21 Jun 1594 the son of John Porter and Sybyl Vessey. (TAG:18P56-60)
He married Anna White, dau of Robert White of Shalford and Bridget Allgar of Messing, in Messing on 18 Oct 1620. She was baptized at Shalford 13 Jul 1600. (TAG:18P56-60)
I see different dates for his entry into New England in various on-line genealogies. The problem being that there were three different John Porter immigrants into New England in these early years. Records of one are being confused with another. Our John Porter arrived in New England in late 1638 or early 1639 and immediately settled at Windsor. He died 21 Apr 1649 at Windsor. His wife Anna had died 21 Apr 1648 also in Windsor. (TAG16:P49-53)
John Porter and Anna White have many descendants, including Marlon Brando, John Brown (The Abolitionist), Anthony Perkins, William Williams (signor of the Declaration of Independence) and three U.S. Presidents, Grover Cleveland, Ulysses Grant and Gerald Ford.

Joseph apparently died between 1880 and 1889. Joseph appears in the 1880 census. In the 1889 Bay City Directory, Sarah is listed 'widow of Joseph'.
Unable to find death record in tuscola, bay or saginaw.
No record of Joseph Schultz in the Tuscola County Probate Index.
Tuscola County Deed Record. 28 May 1884 Sarah R, Shultz Purchased 40 acres from Joseph R. Shultz for $700 (NW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of section 14 of Town 13 of Range 8E). The sale of his share of the real estate to the wife is suggestive of a divorce settlement. Although later she is listed as a widow.

JOSEPH WISE
Numerous on-line genealogies have Joseph as the child of John Wise and Abigail Gardner of Ipswich. This is a mistake and the mistake is repeated on-line many hundreds of times. That John Wise did have a son named Joseph Wise born abt 1686. That Joseph married Martha Appleton and later died in 1745. This is not the same person.
On-line trees also show birth date for joseph wise of 22 Mar 1695 in Somerville, Somerset, New Jersey. That is not the dob or pob of the Joseph Wise, son of John Wise and Abigail Garner. But I have not been able to find any confirmation of it.
Many on-line sources have his death in 1783, which is not the dod of the other Joseph Wise. But I have not been able to find any confirmation of this.
Bottom line is that the only record we have of Joseph is the marriage record to Hepzibah and him being listed as the father on all of the childrens birth records. Nothing to indicate, age, place of birth or date or location of death.
We suspect that the father of Joseph may be Thomas Wise, a mariner from Ipswich who first bought land in Gloucester in 1704, and who moved from there to Attleboro in 1723, where he died in 1728. His will dated 1728 mentions a son named Joseph. Our Joseph is the only Joseph Wise of the right age who shows up in the records of either Gloucester or Attleboro.
