  James Adna Knickerbocker, 82 years old, has passed after a long illness. James lived in Canton, Ga, with his wife of 57 years, Hilde {Assmann} Knickerbocker. In addition to his wife, He is survived by 4 daughters, Erika Peeke, Linda Wilcox, Tina Merrill and Lora Mitchel, 3 Son in laws, 7 grandchildren, 9.5 great grandchildren, his youngest Sister, 3 Sister in laws, 2 Brother in laws, 11 Nieces and 11 Nephews. Born and raised in Rochester, Mi. the youngest Son of Adna and Ada Knickerbocker. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1958, spending time in Japan, Hawaii, California and Colorado. Jim and Hilde met in April, 1960 and they were married 3 months later in August of 1960. Hilde was new to the U.S. from Germany but they shared a love of music and musicals, which helped to bridge the language gap. They sang often together for their own pleasure. They lived for several years in Rochester, Mi, moving to Cape Coral, Fl in 1977. After raising their family, they retired to N. Ft Myers, Fl., in 2000, where Jim and Hilde lived in the Pine Lakes community. There he participated in cards, socializing and his favorite - the Men’s day luncheons. James was a wonderful Husband and Father. He was an easygoing person, who always had a smile. He was very proud of his 4 girls, and as the family grew, his happiest times were celebrating the Holidays and all of the many mile stones of a large and growing Family. We are really going to miss him and the stories he would tell of growing up in the “old” days. Arrangements for cremation were made by Northside Chapel, Roswell, Ga. A funeral service will be held Friday, March 23rd at 2:00 p.m. in the Northside Chapel. 12050 Crabapple Road, Roswell, GA. Burial will be at Georgia National Cemetery, Canton, Ga., at a future date.
