  The death certificate of Elias shows parents of Henry Degroat & Margaret Dafoe. That appears to be a mistake. The 1852 Canada Census shows Elias in the household of Peter E Degroat, the same census shows in the 'age at next birthday' column 14 on Mar 17 (which would make birth date 17 Mar 1838).
