  Joseph apparently died between 1880 and 1889. Joseph appears in the 1880 census. In the 1889 Bay City Directory, Sarah is listed 'widow of Joseph'. Unable to find death record in tuscola, bay or saginaw. No record of Joseph Schultz in the Tuscola County Probate Index. Tuscola County Deed Record. 28 May 1884 Sarah R, Shultz Purchased 40 acres from Joseph R. Shultz for $700 (NW 1/4 of the NW 1/4 of section 14 of Town 13 of Range 8E). The sale of his share of the real estate to the wife is suggestive of a divorce settlement. Although later she is listed as a widow.
