    Notes:

There is a Mindt (Georg HH88) household in Schilling on the 1798 census, perhaps that is her correct surname. Her husband's parents were from Schilling. The Mindt spelling is from Brent Mai's 1798 census translation. The AHSGR translation of both the 1775 and 1798 census spells it as Mende. It seems likely that Anna Katharina is the daughter of one of Georg Minde's sons who were born in 1777 and 1780.

  1. 4.  Konrad Bell was born in 1750 in Stolberg, Germany; died in 1810 in Kukkus, Samara, Russia.

    Other Events:

    • Reference Number: 3824
    • Residence: 1775, Schilling, Saratov, Russia
    • Residence: 1798, Kukkus, Samara, Russia; HH7

    Notes:

Konrad Bell appears on the 1798 Kukkus Census in household #7 with his wife Margareta Heisner (Geisner?)(from Schilling). His birthdate is 1750. He has one daughter Maria Barbara from a prior deceased wife.

Bell does not appear to be a common name in the Volga Colonies. A check of the Kuhlberg Lists shows 1 Bell, Konrad Bell, a single man, from Stolberg, a servant of Ludwig Hoff, doc #1656.

A check of the index of first settler lists does not show any Bell's. However a Bell does show up on the 1775 census revision for Schilling (Schilling does not have a 1st Settler List). the 1775 Census Revision for Schilling states Konrad Bell, bachelor, born 1750, "farms with the aid of relatives"
It would appear that Konrad Bell was perhaps the only Bell to immigrate to the Volga Colonies, or at least one of very few.

The 1775 revision list for Schilling furthur notes that Konrad Bell, along with 2 other bachelors "Assigned to the colonies as laborers. According to testimony of the community they came alone to Russia and did not receive loans for farming. They were living in Lesnoy Karamysh (Grimm) with Grimm. They were in the colony of Gololobovka (Doenhof) and kinder (?) in that colony. They are currently engaged in farming, and with time will marry. Upon entering the economy they hope to be able to pay their debts. They are currently unable to assume the responsibility."

The 1798 census from Brent Mai's book listing all of the census records from 1798 shows only two Bell families, Konrad Bell in Kukkus and another Bell in Dinkel. The goal of this line of reasoning is to show that if we find any Bell's in Kukkus they are almost certainly without a doubt descendants of Konrad Bell.

In the 1834 census we do not find Konrad Bell, but we do find 3 Bell children all born between 1803 and 1810. Johannes, Konrad and Johann Philipp. They are living in the household of Philipp Neidhardt in 1816 (per the 1834 census-see household #102-P28) as step-children from his deceased wife. Based on our reasoning above we can conclude the following:

" These 3 children are sons of Konrad Bell.
" Konrad Bell died between 1810 and 1816. (1811 census shows he died in Kukkus in 1810)
" His widow Margareta Geisner remarried Philipp Neidhardt after 1810 and then herself died at some unknown date. (Phillip Neudhardt moved to Kukkus in 1811 to live in the Bell Houshold per the 1811 census)

Continuing with the same reasoning, we can conclude that any Bells whom we find on the 1857 census are the 3 sons of Konrad and their descendants. On the 1857 census we find the following Bell's and the household #:

" #18 Christina age 23 (spouse of Christian Reitz)
" #33 Maria Margaretha age 30 (spouse of Konrad Baum)
" #47 Konrad age 51 (one of the sons) along with 9 children and grand children
" #49 Johannes age 54 (one of the sons) along with 6 children and grand children
" #70 Phillip age 48 (one of the sons) along with 8 children and grand children
" #98 Anna Elisabeth age 26 (spouse of Johannes Heizenrader)
" #103 Katharina Margaretha age 26 (spouse of Andreas Maser)

Of the 4 females listed Christina born in 1834 does not appear on the 1834 census. Katharina Margaretha appears as the daughter of Johannes born 1830. Katharina Margaretha appears also as the daughter of Johannes born 1830. Maria Margaretha appears also as the daughter of Johannes born 1827.

I cannot find Konrad Bell on a transport list or a first settler list.
