3051 It appears that Anna Christina traveled to Russia as a widow. She shows on the Kuhlberg list and on the transport list as a widow. On the Kukkus first settler list she is married to Jakob Mittelhof and her children are listed as Mittelhof's children. Mittelhof was a widower on the transport list. A few months later his household in Kukkus included Christina as his wife and her two children, although the children were listed as his. Fazius, Unknown (I11187)

3052 It appears that at least the first two children go to an unknown 1st wife of Heinrich Johannes Eurich, simply based upon the age of his 2nd wife. In fact, we cannot be certain if any of the children go to the 2nd wife, Katharina Becker. The Pleve Chart does not indicate a marriage date.

Catharina/Katherine Barbara (Becker) Eirich Reinhardt Nikolaisen Steinhauer
- She was indicated as on her fourth marriage in the 1910 California Census, the mother of 9, 6 living (4 living, 3 dead from Eirich, 1 living from Reinhardt, 1 living from Nikolaisen).

Obituary taken from the Sunday, November 19, 1944 edition of the Fresno Bee, Fresno, Fresno County, CA, USA: MRS. CATHERINE STEINHAUER - Funeral rites will be held tomorrow at 1:30 P. M. in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church for Mrs. Katherine Steinhauer, 84, who died Thursday in the home of a daughter in Sacramento after nearly three decades of residence in Fresno. Mrs. Steinhauer, a native of Russia, came to Fresno in 1912 [sic] and remained here until recently, except for three years spent in a previous residence in Sacramento. She was a member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church. The survivors include her husband, Henry Steinhauer of Fresno; a son, Henry Reinhart of Fresno; a daughter, Mrs. Katherine N.
Carlson of Sacramento; a sister, Mrs. Barbara Huber of Fresno; 18 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Burial will be in the Mountain View Cemetery under the direction of the Rest Haven Funeral Home.

3053 It appears that at least the first two children go to an unknown 1st wife, simply based upon the age of the 2nd wife. In fact, we cannot be certain if any of the children go to the 2nd wife, Katharina Baecker. The Pleve Chart does not indicate a marriage date. Eurich, Johann Georg (I5483)

3054 It appears that this person was an error on the Krumm Surname Chart. This person does not appear on the 1798 or 1834 census. We have also found no record of a spouse for Anna Katharina Krumm. We do not believe that there was an Abraham Debus b. 1773. Debus, Abraham (I1264)

3055 It is believed that this surname is a translation/transcription error (Russian G and H are the same character) or some other type of error. The evidence is very strong that she is a Goeringer. Goeringer, Maria Christina (I11539)

3056 It is uncertain if Johann Friedrich remarried after his first spouse died, or if there was only one spouse.

Johann Friedrich's child Georg Friedrich b. 1838 shows Christina Seib as mother on the St John's church death records in Lincoln, Nebraska. As the 1834 census shows Maria Katharina Unknown and 2 earlier children had Christina in their names, it seems a possibility that Maria Katharina Unknown may in all actuality be Maria Christina Seib. The confusion over the mothers name could be caused by a transcription or translating error on the 1834 census??? Pleve on his Reifschneider surname chart for Kukkus shows Maria Katharina as the mother also. He does not show two spouses or a deceased spouse.

If these two names represent two separate females, then Christina would have died after 8 Mar 1838, Georg Friedrich's birth date, and then Johann Friedrich remarried after that.
Reifschneider, Johann Friedrich (I1576)

3058 It is unclear if children 2-4 of Georg Busick are children of the first wife or the second wife. We know child 1, Georg Jr, is a child of the first wife. Busick, Andreas (I4675)

3061 It seems extremely odd that Johann Philipp Debus had a first child in 1859 and not another until 1875 and then 4 more beginning in 1881.

It is perhaps a possibility that Johannes b. 1859 who was of an age to start having children by 1881 and who died in 1886 was the parent of these last 4 children, who were then raised by the grandparents.

These 4 children who are possibly the son of Johannes are Heinrich b. 1881, Johann George b.1883, Johann Philipp b. 1885 and Andreas b. 1886.
This theory leaves the true parentage of Jacob b. 1875 up in the air.

3070 J.S,-Notes for PETER GÖRINGER-GERINGER:
He and his wife and daughter sailed on the SS Merion from Liverpool on 2 May 1906 and arrived in Philadelphia, USA on 14 May 1906. His contact in the USA was his brother-in-law "Mr." Kukkus in Lincoln, NE, believed to be his wife's brother Heinrich-Henry.

A Peter Geringer, born 31 Jan 1876, filled out a WWI draft card in McGrew, Scotts Bluff County, NE, USA, and it lists a wife "Katie." If this is the same Peter, which in all liklihood it is, the bithdate and wife's name are incorrect.

Obituary taken from the Tuesday, January 22, 1935 edition of The Lincoln Star, Lincoln, Lancaster County, NE, USA: PETER GERINGER DEAD. Peter Geringer, 58, a resident of Lincoln for a number of years, died at his home at 717 New Hampshire street at 1 o'clock Tuesday morning. He is survived by his wife, Mary, and by four daughters, Mrs. Peter Faust, Mrs. Margaret Gates and Misses Anna and Katherine, all of Lincoln; and two brothers, Henry of Sugar City, Colo., and Phillip of Fresno, Cal. The body is at Splain, Schnell and Griffiths.

3079 jds notes
The first known wife was Barbara ____ born about 1809. She was the mother of his kids born up to at least 1834.
The second known wife was Rosina Barbara Adolph, born 3 Mar 1811 in Warenburg. This woman was married in Warenburg to a Georg Nicolaus Spomer that died about 1838, so the earliest she could have married in Kukkus would have been 1838.
Although the second wife could have been the mother of the Schaefer kid born in about 1839, given the gaps in birth years I assume that the 1839 kid came from the first wife, and the later ones came from the second.

3081 jds Notes for GEORG HEINRICH SCHÄFER:
His wife was Barbara, 25, in the transcription of the 1834 Kukkus Census, Rosina Adolph, 39, in 1850, and Rosina Barbara Adolph, 46, in 1857. Absent better information it is assumed that the wife in 1834 was not the same as in 1850 and 1850, and that the latter was the mother of his children born in about 1846 and thereafter.

3088 JDS notes in regard to her surname:
The Rudolph surname appears in various records (daughter Amelia's baptism, son Peter's records, etc., records showing her and Heinrich with her Weber kids in the family) as well as in Ludwig Heinrich's obituary. Her own obituary also names a sister in Fresno that was a daughter of Johann Rudolph Rudolph. I have this sister in my file, as she married a distant cousin of mine. A 1910 Census record says this was Ludwig Heinrich's first marriage and Maria's second. Her first husband's death was in the paper. He was with a couple of horses and a wagon and closing a gate when the horses started off with the wagon and got on a RR track. He tried to get them off and was hit by a train.
The name Ohlberg has to come from a very bad translation error, as the 1886 List was written in Russian. Of course Weber came from her first husband.
Notes for MARIA-MARIE CHRISTINA-CHRISTINE RUDOLPH from JDS:
She and her husband were enumerated twice in the 1910 Montana Census. On 18 May 1910 they were listed as Lewis and Mary Henry. She was indicated as married 15 years (8 overwritten), and he 8 years. She was indicated as the mother of 6, 6 living, but only 5 were listed in the household, Peter, Maggie, Conrad, Geo, John. She and her husband and the eldest two children were indicated as born in Germany, Conrad and Geo as born in CA, USA, and John as born in CO, USA. Immigration year was given as 1902 for those born in Germany. Her children from her first marriage were not indicated as stepchildren. Also on 18 May 1910 they were listed as Ludwick and Mary Henry. She was indicated as the mother of 7, 6 living, and 6 children were listed. She was indicated as on her first marriage, her husband on his second, married 10 years. Her children from her first marriage were properly indicated as stepchildren.

Obituary taken from the Wednesday, December 3, 1924 edition of The Billings Gazette, Billings, Yellowstone County, MT, USA: Mrs. Heinrich Dies From Heart Disease - Marie Christina Heinrich, wife of Ludwig Heinrich, died at the family home, about seven miles west of Billings, at 6 o'clock Tuesday morning. She had been ill for about six months from heart trouble. Mrs. Heinrich was born in Russia, Feb. 17, 1869, and came 26 years ago to the United States with her family. They lived in California for six years and then moved to Rocky Ford, Colo., where they lived four years. They came to Yellowstone county about 14 years ago and have been located at the present home for seven years. Besides her husband she is survived by four sons and two daughters, Peter Weber, a son by a former marriage, and Conrad, George and Alexander Heinrich, Mrs. Conrad Lenahardt [sic, Lenhardt, from a former marriage,] and Miss Mollie Heinrich. All are living in Billings except Mr. Weber, who is on his way from Caliornia to attend the funeral. Two sons are dead. Two sisters, Mrs. Chris Geringer of Fresno and Mrs. David Menak of Russia, also survive. Mrs. Heinrich was a member of the First German Congregational church of this city. Funeral arrangements await the arrival of the son from California. Alexander Heinrich, a son, was seriously hurt Saturday afternoon when a train struck a team which he was driving, killing one of the horses.

Funeral notice taken from the Thursday, December 4, 1924 edition of The Billings Gazette, Billings, Yellowstone County, MT, USA: HEINRICH - Funeral services for the late Mrs. Marie C. Heinrich, wife of Ludwig Heinrich, will take place Friday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the First German Congregational church, corner Thirth-sixth street and Fourth avenue south, Rev. Fred Anhorn officiating. Interment in Mountview cemetery.

3090 JDS Notes-
A note in the transcription of the 1886 Lauwe family lists indicates that he was drafted into the military in 1899 and subsequently discharged.
He and his wife, his mother, and two children sailed on the SS Gunther from Santos, Brazil on 16 May 1907 and arrived at NY, USA on 10 Jun 1907. Their last residence was Buenos Aires, Argentina. Birthplace for him, his mother, and elder child was Lauwe, for his wife it was Kukkus, and for the younger child Libau. His contact in the USA was his brother (also indicated as the son of his mother) Conrad Kuhn in Fresno, CA.

3091 JDS Notes-
AHSGR Fresno notes erroneously give his father's name as Conrad.
He, 59, his then wife Lisbeth, 50, son George, 21, daughter-in-law Marie, 21, grandchildren Heinrich, 2, and Kataryna, infant, stepson Johannes Reitz, 10, stepdaughter Lisbeth Reitz, 4 1/2, and stepson Heinrich Reitz, 10, sailed on the SS Caronia from Liverpool on 22 Dec 1906 and arrived at NY, USA on 30 Dec 1906. His contact in the USA was his daughter Mary --- (Lindegren ?) at 235 D Street in Fresno, CA. Last residences and birthplaces were Stahl am Tarlyk, though his wife and his stepchildren (her children by her first marriage) were actually born in Kukkus. A line appears through the name of George, indicating that either he did not actually board the ship, or that he was denied entry to the USA.

3094 JDS Notes-
Georg Heinrich Schaefer had a daughter by his first wife named Maria Catharina born abt 1879 that is noted as marrying in 1901. You will see in your database that you don't have the husband, which would suggest that she married in another colony.
A Maria Catharina Schaefer married in Lauwe in 1901 to a Julius Markus that was born 12 Dec 1879 in Lauwe. This woman was not from Lauwe.
So, the name Maria Catharina Schaefer is a match, the marriage year is a match, and the girl in Kukkus has a clear connection to Lauwe, as both her mother and her step-mother were born there.
I'm going to link the two as one in my own files and include a note as to the reasoning.

This guy also had a son by his first wife named Georg born 21 Jul 1882. The wife of this Georg is an Anna Margaretha Felsing, married in 1904. Her age is 22 in the transcription, which must be the age at the time she married rather than in 1886, so she was born about 1882, presumably in Kukkus.
The problem is that there is no Anna Margaretha Felsing born in 1882 that appears in any Felsing household that would fit.
However, there is an Anna Margaretha Felsing, age 5, so born about 1880, that does appear, and what do you know, it says she married in 1904.
I suspect that her age was mistranscribed in one or the other household. What a surprise!!!
It's pretty hard to mistake a 2 for a something else, particularly as the age in her husband's household is 22, so the two two's would look alike.
On the other hand, it is very easy to see how a 3 could be mistaken for a 5, as I've seen in going through the Lauwe Family List.
As such, I think the Anna Margaretha, age 5, in 1886 HH 93 was actually 3, and her age was mis-transcribed.
This also makes sense in that a girl born in 1880 would have been expected to first marry in about 1900 give or take two years, whereas one born in 1882 would have been expected to first marry in about 1902 give or take two years.
It also makes sense in that spouses involved in a first marriage would be expected to be about the same age.
I'm going to merge these two and make note that the age 5 is probably 3 and mistranscribed.

He gave his birthplace as "Yeplanopka" [sic, Jablonovka, i.e., Lauwe] on his WWII draft card, which is quite possibly correct, as his mother likely came from Lauwe.
