Area Resident for 52 Years Passes Here
Funeral services for a long-time resident, Mrs. Philip Werner, 88, were held at the chapel of the Danekas Funeral Home in Ritzville.
Rev. R. W. Rieger officiated at the services. Interment was at Ritzville Memorial cemetery.
Pallbearers included Ralph Streeter, Fred Schell, Henry Leisle, Dave Kramer, Fred Kramer and John Kramer.
Mrs. Werner died Saturday at the Adams County Memorial hospital. She had been there 66 days.
The daughter of Mr. and Mrs. George Abel, Katherine Werner was born Sept. 1, 1872, in Warrensburg, Russia. Mr. and Mrs. Werner were married Jan. 29, 1891, in Warrensburg, nearly 18 years before they came to the Ritzville area to settle.
The Werners came to Canada in 1908, and moved to Adams county on a farm near Crab creek the next year. The couple farmed on Crab creek for several years before moving to Ritzville when he quit farming to become a carpenter. He retired 10 years ago and preceded her in death on Feb. 4.
Mr. and Mrs. Werner celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary Jan. 29.
Mrs. Werner was a member of the Zion Congregational church.
Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Phil Kukes of Toppenish, Mrs.Carl Thaut of Ritzville, and Mrs. William Koch of Las Vegas, Nev.; two sons, Alex and Ruben, both of Ritzville; 10 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
