Notes |
- Information provided by Theresa Hess Jennings-
per his obituary in the Kirchenbote 7Feb1935, Adam Metzker was born on Jun 26, 1870, on the Kuban (river) Caucasus in the Friedenstal colony of Russia. "Er var am 26 Juni 1870 am Kuban Caucasus in der Kolonie Friedenstal, Russia".
He was the son of George Wilhelm Metzker (1845-1896) and Elisabeth Kerber (b 1850) who were from Stahl am Tarlyk. See George Wilhelm in the Stahl am Tarlyk census - Fam#77 in 1850 and family #104 in 1857.
Adam's obit also notes he was confirmed by Pastor Allendorf in 1886, and I believe this would be in Kukkus.
Adam Metzker married Katherine Bell in about 1889 or 1890. Their first child was born in Jun 1890. They left Kukkus for a village outside Omsk in 1893, and migrated to the US in 1903.
It is interesting to note that Adam's father, George Wilhelm Metzker, was the brother (or likely half-brother) of his wife's mother, Anna Katharina Metzker Bell (1853-1913).
